Dancehall Artistes React To Miss South Africa Taking The Miss Universe 2019 Crown

South African beauty Zozibini Tunzi took home the Miss Universe title which was held last night in Atlanta. Ninety women competed for the crown and during the final moments she was up against Miss Puerto Rico and Miss Mexico, who finished in second and third respectively.

The 26-year-old queen is the third South African, after Margaret Gardiner and Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters to win the coveted title.  As news spread, by Monday morning the new Miss Universe had received millions of messages congratulating her from all around the world.

Of course, reggae and dancehall artistes chimed in too and used social media to let everyone know just how proud they are of the new reigning queen.

Spice posted a video of the moment the Tunzi claimed the title and captioned her post, “Black and beautiful so mi nah bleach, mi no pree and mi no chat and mi no eye gal”.  Spice has been vocal about stigmas related to skin color and even caused major uproar last year when she released photos and videos featuring herself with a much much lighter complexion, in a stunt meant to raise awareness.

An elated Queen Ifrica congratulated Zozibini but asked what was Jamaica thinking when its contestant wore an ‘Annie Palmer’ themed costume at the pageant.   The Miss Universe Jamaica Organization defended the choice, saying it was meant inform young people about their history.
