Crucial Flamez Ventures Into Book Publishing With His CUSHJAM Music Label
Reggae singer Crucial Flamez is venturing into book publishing with the release of ‘Melissa Blinks’, a book written in the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa, the Category 5 storm that made landfall in
Jamaica last year.
‘Melissa Blinks’, penned by first-time author Shelly-Ann Hamilton-Sirgool, is described as a symbolic and inspirational journey about transformation, unity, awakening, and the power of small beginnings.
Crucial Flamez portrayed the move as a pivot for the fledgling music outfit, Cushjam Music. He sees this venture as merely “an expansion from music into broader artistic storytelling”.
“With Melissa Blinks, we wanted to honor the reality of what Jamaica experienced while also creating something that speaks to strength, unity, and the responsibility we carry as artists,” said Crucial Flamez, whose real name is Cullen Sirgool.
“This book is a reminder that even the smallest beginning can become part of something lasting when it is connected to purpose.”
It will be the first book published under CUSHJAM Music, the creative media company founded by Crucial Flamez.
Hurricane Melissa was a catastrophic Category 5 hurricane that struck the Caribbean in late October 2025, becoming the strongest hurricane on record to hit Jamaica. The hurricane’s destructive path wrought US$12.2 billion damage to the island’s infrastructure.
However, for the author, the hurricane’s impact on Jamaica became a defining creative spark for the project, shaping a story in ‘Melissa Blinks’ that looks beyond destruction to explore renewal, connection, and purpose.

Author Shelly-Ann Hamilton-Sirgool explains that ‘Melissa Blinks’ begins with the idea of something almost unseen — a “speck” — and follows its transformation into a force capable of reshaping lives and communities.
“Through Melissa’s journey, the book explores how what seems small or insignificant can hold the possibility for profound change when aligned with truth, source, and purpose,” she said.
The book’s themes include transformation, unity, purpose, interconnectedness, community and renewal.
“The book’s audience includes readers who have faced challenges, searched for meaning, or looked for reassurance that their presence matters,” Mrs. Hamilton-Sirgool said.
Rather than following a traditional narrative structure, the novel blends storytelling with symbolic and philosophical meaning, allowing readers to interpret Melissa not only as a character, but also as a reflection of their own potential.
The cover of Melissa Blinks visually reflects the book’s message. Glowing trees forming the letter “M” represent growth, life, nature, and ‘connection to source’. The contrast between light and darkness suggests the movement from uncertainty to clarity.
“The colors also pay tribute to Jamaica, grounding the story in the cultural and emotional setting that inspired it,” Mrs. Hamilton-Sirgool said.
For CUSHJAM Music, the release marks more than a publishing milestone. Founded in 2024 as a music company, CUSHJAM is now taking deliberate steps toward becoming a wider media entity, with writing, storytelling, and cultural expression becoming part of its creative footprint.

“The company’s move into book publishing reflects its belief that art can live across multiple forms while remaining rooted in the same foundation: sound, presence, memory, and meaningful expression,” Crucial Flamez said.
For Crucial Flamez and Shelly-Ann Hamilton-Sirgool, newlyweds and creative partners, the publication of Melissa Blinks represents a shared step toward building CUSHJAM Music as a home for music, writing, and future authors.
Crucial Flamez vowed that the company intends to continue developing creative works that “connect cultures, encourage expression, and leave an artistic legacy across media”.
