Etana isn’t giving California fans much warning. The Jamaican singer took to Instagram with a siren emoji and three words in all caps, “SHOWS THIS WEEK!!!”, announcing a three-night run through Northern and Central California.

The stretch kicks off Friday, October 30, at Dèja Blue in Seaside. Saturday, October 31, takes her to Mulberry Station in Chico, and she closes on Sunday, November 1, at Sweetwater Music Hall in Mill Valley.

The Saturday date lands on Halloween, so the Chico crowd gets a holiday night out with one of reggae’s most recognizable voices. That could make for a looser, more festive room than a typical weekend gig.

The routing covers a lot of ground. Seaside sits on Monterey Bay, Chico is up in the northern Sacramento Valley, and Mill Valley is tucked into Marin County just north of San Francisco. That’s three distinct pockets of the state’s reggae audience in three nights.

All three are smaller, club-sized rooms rather than arenas or festival stages. For longtime fans, that’s the appeal: Etana’s voice, the one behind “Wrong Address” and “Roots,” up close. The tradeoff is capacity, and with only days of notice, anyone who wants in will have to move quickly.

The short lead time cuts both ways. Fans who follow her closely on social media get a heads-up and a shot at tickets. Casual listeners in those towns may not hear about it until the weekend is already underway.

The post also tags @soulmamalondon alongside the #reggae and #fy hashtags. Etana didn’t say anything more about that account’s role in the run.

Etana built her reputation as “The Strong One,” the title of her 2008 debut album. She followed it with records including “Free Expressions” and “I Rise.”

Her 2018 album “Reggae Forever” earned a Grammy nomination for Best Reggae Album, which pushed her name further outside reggae circles.

Her catalog leans on conscious lyrics and a rich, soulful delivery, which tends to suit intimate venues. A room like Sweetwater, known for its close-quarters sound, is the kind of setting where that style comes through well.

For now, the Instagram post is all the official detail available. Set times, support acts and any further dates haven’t been announced, so fans along the coast and up north will be watching her feed as the weekend gets closer.
