The man who wrote a reggae song called “Barack Obama” is heading to Legon. Gramps Morgan has confirmed that Blakk Rasta will perform live at the Ghana Jamaica Homecoming Festival, set for December 5 at Legon Sports Stadium.
Gramps made the announcement on X with a pitch that doubles as the festival’s whole mission statement. If you have Ghana or Jamaica in your blood, this one is for YOU,” he wrote, before running through Blakk Rasta’s credentials.
Gramps leaned into the Ghanaian artist’s specific lane rather than just calling him a reggae act.
He introduced Blakk Rasta as an “award-winning reggae artist and dub poet behind Kuchoko, reggae fused with African sounds.” Kuchoko is Blakk Rasta’s own name for that blend, and it fits a festival built on the line between Accra and Kingston.
The post also name-checked two of his best-known tracks, “Congo Bongo” and “Barack Obama.” Both lean on his strengths as a dub poet, and they’re the songs a Legon crowd will likely be waiting for.
From the Jamaican side, booking Blakk Rasta makes a lot of sense. Gramps comes out of Morgan Heritage, the reggae family band that has spent decades pushing roots music and pan-African themes.
A homecoming festival in Ghana fronted by a Morgan works best when local reggae voices are part of the bill, not just guests at a Jamaican party.
From the Ghanaian side, the booking pushes the festival past simple nostalgia for Jamaica. Blakk Rasta has spent his career arguing that reggae belongs as much to Africa as to the Caribbean.
Kuchoko is basically that argument set to music, so his set could feel less like a cultural import and more like a two-way exchange.

The post tagged Morgan Heritage, dadasonent, and Ghanaian dancehall and reggae star Samini.
Gramps didn’t spell out what role each plays in the event, and he hasn’t shared a full lineup or set times in this announcement. For now, the festival seems to be rolling out names one post at a time.
The festival is pushing its own hashtags, #BlakkRasta and #GhanaJamaicahomecomingfestival, and the post links to a ticket page.
How the bill fills out over the coming weeks will show whether the homecoming theme reaches deep into both scenes or stays mostly a slogan.
With Blakk Rasta now confirmed, Ghana has at least one homegrown reggae voice on stage at Legon on December 5.
