The last place anyone expected a ceasefire was a Lagos nightclub, but that’s where Burna Boy and Davido ended up shaking hands.

The moment happened at Zlatan Ibile’s bachelor party, just days before the rapper marries Davita Lamai on Saturday, October 24.

Pulse Nigeria reported that footage from the celebration showed the two Afrobeats heavyweights greeting each other.

It was a short clip, but after years of public tension between them, it didn’t take long for the internet to start calling it a truce.

Fans on TikTok were quick to have fun with it. One user, posting as Yaps, shared a reaction video declaring that OBO and Odogwu are “besties again,” using the nicknames both stars are known by.

Here’s the catch, though. Neither Burna Boy nor Davido has said a word about the encounter, so for now the handshake is doing all the talking.

If any room was going to bring them together, Zlatan’s makes sense. He’s worked closely with both of them, starting with Davido’s appearance on “Osanle” in November 2018, a track produced by Fresh VDM.

Two months later, in January 2019, Zlatan and Burna Boy dropped the video for “Killin Dem.” The Kel P production landed on Burna Boy’s “African Giant” album and picked up Best Collabo at the 2019 Headies.

The history between Burna Boy and Davido runs deeper than the feud headlines suggest. Davido has said the pair first met in 2010, long before either was a household name, and that he was rooting for Burna Boy from the start.

“Burna Boy and I are brothers,” Davido said. In that same interview, he pushed back on the idea that his song “FEM” was a shot at Burna Boy, even though listeners linked it to their dispute because it used the name Odogwu.

According to Davido, the mention was really an invitation for Burna Boy to give him a call and come through to a party. He also sounded frustrated, saying he’d tried to talk to Burna Boy several times and had never tried to discredit him.

Burna Boy eventually responded with a post of his own. “FYI, I have no issues with David. We good now,” he wrote, adding a call for people to show each other love heading into 2022.

That’s why some fans are treating this handshake with a little caution. They’ve seen a peace declaration before, and the tension between the two still kept coming up in conversation afterward.

Others see it differently, reading a public greeting at a friend’s celebration as a sign the two can at least share a room again.

With Zlatan’s wedding coming up on Saturday, plenty of eyes will be on the guest list to see if this story picks up another chapter.
