Afro Nation isn’t wasting any time. The festival has already locked in the top of its 2027 Portugal bill, and the three names sitting up there will feel familiar to anyone who has made the pilgrimage to the Algarve coast: Davido, Rema and Fally Ipupa.
Organisers are framing it as a return for all three, which says a lot about how the festival reads its audience. Omah Lay and Victony have also been confirmed, with other stars named on the official artist lineup.
Davido is about as safe a headline booking as Afrobeats has. He has spent more than a decade turning Nigerian pop into a global export, and his 2025 album 5ive kept him firmly in the conversation long after most of his peers from that era had slowed down.
Rema brings a different kind of pull. His Selena Gomez assisted remix of Calm Down became one of the most streamed African songs ever, and his 2024 album HEIS showed he was willing to get rougher and stranger rather than chase another crossover hit.
Then there’s Fally Ipupa, the booking that stops this from being an all Nigerian affair at the top. The Congolese rumba and ndombolo star has a devoted following across Francophone Africa and Europe, and his 2024 headline show at Paris La Défense Arena proved he can fill the biggest rooms on the continent’s diaspora circuit.
Putting him alongside Davido and Rema is a smart nod to how wide the festival’s crowd really is. Afro Nation has always sold itself as a celebration of African music broadly, not just the Lagos sound that dominates streaming charts.
Omah Lay and Victony round out the early announcement with some younger energy. Omah Lay built his reputation on moody, introspective records like Soso and his debut album Boy Alone, while Victony has become one of the more distinctive voices of the newer wave of Nigerian artists.
Afro Nation launched in Portugal in 2019 and has since grown into a touring brand, with editions staged in places like Ghana, Miami and Puerto Rico. Portugal remains the flagship, the beachside event that most fans picture when they hear the name.
There is another way to read this lineup, though. Bringing back artists who have already headlined is a proven formula, and for some longtime attendees, returning faces at the top could feel more like a reunion than a reinvention.
It also raises the question of how much room a festival like this leaves for rising acts to break through on its biggest stages.
The early confirmation of Victony and Omah Lay suggests organisers are at least thinking about that balance.
Announcing a 2027 bill this far out is a confident move in its own right. It gives fans plenty of time to plan travel, and it signals that Afro Nation believes these names will still carry serious weight when the festival rolls around.
