Naomi Cowan just wrote a song for little girls everywhere. “We wrote this for you babygirl,” she said on Facebook while sharing “Woman Respect,” track three from her album Welcome to Paradise.

The song, in her words, is “for every little girl (and woman) who needs a reminder that her voice matters.” It’s a direct mission statement, and she didn’t bury it under promo speak.

The timing is deliberate. Cowan released it as part of her “INSIDE PARADISE” series and said “this is how we’re kicking off Breast Cancer Awareness Month,” lining the song up with a month built around women’s health.

That pairing gives the track two jobs at once. It works as an affirmation anthem for young girls finding their footing, and it can also become a rallying point for women dealing with something far heavier.

She also put her audience to work. Cowan asked fans to “tag a few of your fave women in the comments ASAP,” turning the comment section into a roll call of the women people want to lift up.

It’s a smart move for an artist building album momentum on social platforms. Instead of only asking people to stream, she’s asking them to pull other women into the conversation, which spreads the song through exactly the circles it was written for.

The visual side was shot at Skyline Levels, with videography credited to Hue. Cowan tagged the post #welcometoparadisealbum, keeping the rollout tied to the full project rather than treating the song as a standalone drop.

Her hashtags hint at bigger ambitions too. Alongside #paradiseplum, a nod to “Paradise Plum,” the song that put her on many reggae fans‘ radar, she added #junoawardwinner, #reggaegrammy and #grammy2027.

That last tag is telling. It signals she’s eyeing the Recording Academy’s reggae category with this album and wants Welcome to Paradise in the awards conversation.

Whether voters bite remains to be seen, and the reggae Grammy field is never short on competition. A message-driven track tied to a cause also lands differently than a straight dancehall single, and that will pull some listeners in more than others.

For now, Cowan’s ask is simple: name the women who matter to you. With Welcome to Paradise still rolling out track by track, there’s plenty of the album left to unpack.
