Federal prosecutors are now looking into whether Lil Durk helped sneak contraband into the Metropolitan Detention Center, and they dropped that detail just hours before his bond hearing.
The timing is hard to ignore. Durk was supposed to walk into court today making his case for release, and instead he’s facing the possibility of fresh charges.
The government’s opposition filing landed ahead of a hearing scheduled for 5:30 PM EST, or 2:30 PM local time.
That hearing will decide if the Chicago rapper gets out before his VICAR trial, which is currently set for August 2027. That’s a long time to sit behind bars waiting for a jury.
Some background helps here. Durk, born Durk Banks, was arrested in October 2024 in Florida and charged in connection with an alleged murder-for-hire plot tied to the 2022 shooting death of Saviay’a Robinson in Los Angeles. Robinson, known as Lul Pab, was the cousin of Savannah rapper Quando Rondo.
The newest wrinkle traces back to late last week, when Durk was put in solitary confinement for allegedly “talking back” to staff at the MDC.
According to reports, that came after officers ran repeated searches of his cell looking for “contraband.” They didn’t find any, but Durk was still disciplined for insubordination.

Prosecutors are leaning hard on that episode. According to @youvegtMEL on X, the filing says Durk “knowingly violated MDC rules, refusing to comply with guards’ lawful orders.”
The government also says an investigation was opened to determine if he “facilitated the introduction of contraband at the MDC.”
Court reporter Meghann Cuniff has backed up the initial report through her own sources. She says there’s a real possibility Durk ends up with additional charges stemming from the alleged activity inside the jail. Coming from someone who covers federal courtrooms closely, that carries weight.
Still, there’s another side to this. As of now, there’s no evidence that Durk was ever found with contraband, and the searches that kicked all this off reportedly came up empty.
Supporters are likely to read the filing as prosecutors building a narrative out of a mouthy exchange with guards and an investigation that hasn’t produced anything public.

The prosecution’s strategy looks pretty straightforward. They want Durk kept in custody, and they’re framing his recent behavior as proof he can’t be trusted on the outside.
His defense will have to convince a judge that a disciplinary write-up and an open probe shouldn’t outweigh his right to prepare for trial as a free man.
For fans who’ve watched this case drag on for well over a year, today’s ruling could set the tone for everything that follows. Durk’s team is heading into court with the clock ticking, and the judge’s decision is only hours away.
