Busy Signal has a new video out, but the music behind it is living somewhere a little unusual.

The visual for “Dancer” is now on YouTube, while the EP it comes from, Songs From My TapeDeck, is streaming exclusively on TapeDeck rather than across the usual services.

The Jamaican dancehall star announced the video himself on Instagram, keeping it short and direct.

“Music video for DANCER, from my EP Songs From My TapeDeck, is out now!” he wrote, pointing fans to YouTube and adding, “Go check it out and let me know what you think!

That last line is classic Busy. He has always kept a close line to his audience, and asking fans for their take on a fresh visual fits an artist who has spent years reading dancefloors in real time.

The more interesting part of the rollout is the split strategy. The video sits on the biggest free platform there is, while the full project is walled off on a single service, with the link parked in his bio.

There are two ways to read that. One is that the video works as the open door, a way to pull curious listeners toward an EP they can’t stumble across on their default streaming app.

The other is that exclusivity can be a hurdle, especially for casual fans who are used to everything arriving in one place on release day.

Which side wins out usually depends on how bad people want the music. Busy Signal has the kind of catalog that gives him some leverage there.

This is the artist behind “Step Out,” “Night Shift” and “Tic Toc,” records that have been dancehall staples for years.

He crossed into wider pop territory alongside Major Lazer on “Watch Out For This (Bumaye),” and he showed a different side on his reggae-leaning album Reggae Music Again.

That range is part of why a new Busy project draws attention whenever it lands. He has moved between hard dancehall, reggae and cross-genre collaborations without losing the gruff, rapid-fire delivery that made him a name in the first place.

The title alone, Songs From My TapeDeck, leans into the name of the platform hosting it. Whether the EP’s songs carry a throwback feel or simply nod to where they live is something listeners will have to hear for themselves.

For now, “Dancer” is the public face of the project. A song with that title is built for movement, and a video gives fans a chance to see how Busy wants it to look as well as sound.

The post went up with the hashtags #BusySignal, #Dancer, #SongsFromMyTapeDeck and #TapeDeck, signaling that the push is centered on both the song and the platform. No other release details were shared in the announcement.

What comes next is in the fans’ hands, since Busy explicitly asked for their feedback. The comments on the video and the traffic over to TapeDeck will show whether this exclusive approach pays off.
