Of all the characters in the Marvel universe, Shenseea went with the soft-spoken empath with antennae.

The Jamaican star marked Halloween by transforming into Mantis from Guardians of the Galaxy, and fans were quick to take notice.

The look surfaced on 31 October 2026, with Kenyan outlet Tuko’s Bianca Thige reporting that the dancehall artist “wowed fans” with the transformation. It’s a playful left turn from an artist whose public image is usually built on glamour and swagger.

Mantis is not the obvious pick for a pop star costume. Played on screen by Pom Klementieff, the character first joined the franchise in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 in 2017 before returning for Avengers: Infinity War and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 in 2023.

The character is known for her wide-eyed innocence, her ability to sense and shift other people’s emotions, and those unmistakable antennae.

Her awkward, deadpan delivery has made her a quiet fan favourite, which may be exactly why the choice landed with Shenseea’s followers.

There’s also a musical way to read the moment. Shenseea has spent years proving she can move between worlds, from Kingston’s dancehall scene to American rap and pop, so slipping into a Marvel role fits her habit of showing up somewhere unexpected.

Born Chinsea Lee, she rose through Jamaica’s dancehall circuit before signing with Interscope Records.

Her debut album Alpha arrived in 2022 and featured collaborations including “Lick” with Megan Thee Stallion, building on earlier crossover moments like “Blessed” with Tyga.

Her profile got another push when she appeared on Kanye West’s Donda in 2021. That placement put her voice in front of a massive mainstream audience that might never have found her through dancehall alone.

She followed Alpha with her second album, Never Gets Late Here, in 2024. That project leaned further into her versatility and kept her name in conversations well beyond the Caribbean.

Celebrity Halloween looks have become their own mini event on social media, with fans tracking who goes big, who goes obscure, and who barely tries.

Shenseea’s choice sits firmly in the middle lane of that game: recognisable to anyone who has watched the Guardians films, but niche enough to feel personal rather than calculated.

For dancehall fans used to seeing her in high-fashion fits and music video glam, the costume offers a lighter, more mischievous side.

For Marvel fans, it’s a fun moment of a music star nodding to one of the franchise’s more underrated characters.

The source report doesn’t detail how the costume was put together or where the photos were first shared.

As the images keep circulating across fan pages, the bigger question is what Shenseea is cooking up next, on the music front and maybe for next October too.
