Malie Donn has turned a single song title into a franchise, and the third chapter is already on its way. A short preview of “Van Cleef Pt. 3” landed on his Instagram and spread fast, with fans passing it around almost as soon as it went up.

The timing could hardly be better. The first two installments, “Van Cleef” and “Van Cleef Pt. 2,” have now crossed 20 million combined streams, and they got there in just four months.

The chart picture is even more telling. The two singles currently hold the number one and number two spots on the Apple Music top 100 singles chart, which means the original and its sequel are effectively battling each other for the top position.

For a Jamaican dancehall artist, that kind of chart lockout is a big statement. Dancehall has always moved fast, with riddims, freestyles and quick follow ups keeping the conversation going week to week. Malie Donn seems to have figured out how to turn that pace into a long running story.

The sequel approach is a familiar move across hip hop and R&B, but it rarely works this well. Usually a part two rides on the success of the original and then fades. Here, the follow up has climbed right alongside the first track instead of living in its shadow.

The title does plenty of work on its own. Van Cleef shares its name with Van Cleef and Arpels, the French luxury jeweller known for its clover shaped Alhambra pieces. That kind of name drop slots neatly into dancehall’s long love affair with flash and status.

There is another way to read all this, though. Every new part raises the stakes, and a third installment has to justify itself rather than lean on a name people already recognise. Fans who have played the first two on repeat will want something that feels fresh, not a copy with a new number tacked on.

That pressure is exactly what makes the Pt. 3 teaser so interesting to watch. The viral response suggests listeners are not tired of the concept yet. The numbers behind the first two songs show the momentum is not slowing down either.

For now, the preview clip is the only taste anyone has, and no release date came attached to it. Two songs are sitting at the top of the chart while a third waits in the wings.

The question being thrown around online is a simple one. Is everyone ready for Van Cleef Pt. 3?
