Snoop Dogg once handed over music to a label run by a Southside Crip, even though that same crew sat at the center of the 2Pac shooting. That’s the claim from Denvonta “Dirt Rocc” Lee, who laid out the story in a new sit down with VladTV.
Dirt Rocc was talking about Big Dre and his label, Run Off Records, which he says ended up with a Snoop contribution. On paper, that pairing makes almost no sense.
The Southside Compton Crips have been tied to the September 1996 Las Vegas shooting that killed Tupac Shakur, and Snoop was one of Death Row Records’ biggest names at the time.
According to Dirt Rocc, Snoop knew exactly what the politics were. His read is that Snoop simply chose not to put himself in the middle of the conflict. He points to overlapping connections in both the streets and the music business as the reason the collaboration could happen at all.
That’s one way to see it. Another is that plenty of Death Row loyalists would have viewed any link to the Southside camp as crossing a line, given how raw things were after Pac’s death.
Dirt Rocc’s version paints Snoop as someone reading the room and moving carefully, rather than picking sides in a feud that had already cost lives.
The backdrop matters here. Orlando Anderson, the Southside Crip beaten in the MGM Grand lobby just hours before Tupac was shot, was long considered a suspect, though he denied any role.
Anderson was killed in a Compton shootout in 1998, and Dirt Rocc covered the details of that killing in an earlier part of this interview series.
Big Dre’s own story took a hard turn later on. Dirt Rocc recalls his friend’s health falling apart, including blindness and an aneurysm, before he died in 2004. It’s a grim coda for a figure who briefly had one of the West Coast’s biggest stars in his orbit.
The conversation doesn’t stop at Snoop. Dirt Rocc also gets into the still unsolved 1997 murder of The Notorious B.I.G. in Los Angeles, along with long running rumors involving Diddy, a figure known as Zip, and alleged unpaid money. Those claims have circulated for years without being proven in court.
He also opens up about his own 2006 drug trafficking case. Dirt Rocc describes pressure from a DEA and ATF task force, worries about possible RICO charges, and investigations reaching from Virginia to Los Angeles.
Then there’s Keith “Keefe D” Davis, Orlando Anderson’s uncle, whose name keeps coming up. Las Vegas police arrested him in 2023 and charged him with murder in Tupac’s killing, the first charge ever filed in the case.
With that prosecution still working its way through the courts, every new account from someone inside the Southside circle is getting a closer look.
