Nicki Minaj thinks everybody secretly loves Donald Trump. They just have to pretend they don’t.
That was one of the boldest lines from her sit down with Lara Trump on Fox News, where the rapper laid out exactly why she’s backing the president.
Lara, who is also the president’s daughter in law, asked how Nicki ended up in his corner while so much of the entertainment world lines up against him.
“I always say he’s just a very authentic person. He’s always been himself,” Minaj said. “People pretend now that they have an issue with him, but the truth is everyone loves him. They have to act like they don’t.”
Nicki described Trump as someone who went viral before the internet had a word for it. In her telling, he had flair, he was funny, and he was charismatic, and everyone already knew who he was and what he stood for.
What seems to matter most to her is the tone he brings to the job. He brings this candid unedited vibe to the White House that we’ve never before seen,” she said. “
And it’s refreshing because for a very long time, people started feeling like we don’t know who we could trust.”
Not everyone is buying that picture. AllHipHop, which reported on the interview, pointed out that Trump’s approval rating sits at a record low of 32 percent, and the outlet openly questioned how Nicki’s comments square with those numbers.
When asked what critics get wrong about the president, Nicki aimed straight at the press. “They’ve put out so many lies that after a certain amount of time, when you hear a lie over and over and over, especially when you are young, or just, uninformed, you just start thinking these things are truth,” she said. “
And that’s why I don’t like the fact that the media does not understand their responsibility and the role they played in all of this.”
Her timing lands awkwardly for critics of the administration. Trump tried to bar CNN, MS Now and Politico from the White House, and a federal judge ruled that blocking those outlets was unconstitutional.
Nicki compared the coverage to waking up every day and reading lies about yourself with no way to answer each one. She argued those stories just sit there and simmer, and that people who did their own research or met Trump without a media filter would see it’s all political theater.
This isn’t a one off moment for the Queens raised star, whose last album Pink Friday 2 arrived in December 2023.
She’s been vocal about her politics for months, has appeared at White House events, and has been tapped to judge Trump’s small business competition.
She has also said the backlash only pushes her to support him more. Judging by this interview, that pushback isn’t slowing her down anytime soon.
