Skepta has confirmed that a new album titled “Fork in the Night” is on the way, while dropping hints that a remix of his current single “Innocent Smile” is also in the works, though he is keeping the collaborators firmly under wraps.
The single, produced by Madness and Chase and Status, has already made an impression. Skepta spoke about the weight behind the track, pointing to its subject matter as something deeply rooted in British reality.
“The rave scene was built off multiculturalism,” he said. “UK schools, we all grew up with different people in our classrooms understanding how to respect one another.”
On the album, Skepta framed “Fork in the Night” as the next step in a career that has already covered considerable ground. I got the new album coming Fork in the Night,” he said. “I’ve done everything there is to do. Like whether we’re talking UK culture, whether it’s like carrying grime on my back.
When the conversation turned to the rumoured remix, Skepta confirmed something is coming but refused to give up any names. “You know me, I like to keep everyone on their toes and you can expect the unexpected,” he said.
Names including Fred Again, Catama and Mala P were floated, and Skepta’s response to each was the same non-committal tease. “It could be,” he said, before adding, “It could be all of the above.”
He acknowledged that he would normally share exclusive news first, but held his ground. “I got to keep everyone on their toes, man,” he said.
The single’s performance at Reading Festival was also referenced as a standout moment, with the live setting amplifying the track’s message about immigration and the multicultural foundations of British rave culture.
With “Innocent Smile” already out and a remix potentially featuring multiple high-profile names, the lead-up to “Fork in the Night” is shaping up to be a carefully managed rollout, with Skepta clearly in no rush to reveal his hand.
