Sponsors got scarce this year. D’Angel refused to let the kids down anyway. So the entertainer did what she does best—she called in her people.

The payoff? The Angel’s Foundation Back to School Benefit Concert, landing August 16 at the Spanish Town Prison Oval with a lineup that includes her son, Marco Dean, Future Fambo, Queen Ifrica, Nesbeth, Jodian Pantry, Tanto Blacks, Quada, Sheenwrks and Gangoolie—all taking the stage for one cause.

But for D’Angel, this was never really about the spotlight.

It’s about a promise she made and won’t break.

It has always been a struggle for me every year to host the treat,” she says—admitting that, more often than not, the money comes straight out of her own wallet.”All the time I have to be dipping into my pocket,” she adds.

Her finances, she’s the first to say, don’t always stretch far enough. This year, they stretched even thinner.

The reason? Hurricane Melissa. D’Angel’s usual circle of supporters—the same faces she leans on every year—had already poured their resources into helping storm victims rebuild.

The same circle of persons that I have always reached out to has been helping the hurricane victims,” she says.

A lesser hustler might’ve folded. D’Angel changed the play instead.

She picked up the phone, rallied her fellow entertainers, and pitched them a benefit concert. The response? Nothing short of encouraging.

I have a whole team, Jamaica’s Spiderman, Michael Jackson, Future Fambo….Granny…it’s going to be a lot of fun for the kids,” she said.

She thanked her friends like Queen Ifrica and Nesbeth for their continued support.

I am really grateful to them for giving their time and energy to this great cause because it has been a really rough year but I cannot disappoint the kids,” she said.
