Protoje, the In.Digg.Nation Band

Hot on the scene after releasing his fifth studio album, In Search of Lost Time, Protoje stretches his live show muscles on his NPR Tiny Desk (Home) Concert appearance. The at-home version of the Tiny Desk Concert was published this morning where Protoje and the Indiggnation performed an 18-minute set at his home studio in Irish Town, St. Andrew.

We were taken into the world of Protoje with an outdoor stage and golden hour lighting, with the earth-toned set design and direction by Lindsey Lodenquai. The scene was a perfect reminder of the crisp quality that goes into every In. Digg. Nation production.

Protoje sang three tracks from the new album, starting with a fan favourite, Deliverance. Opening the set with a prayer of thanks, “I hold my order, give my praises; Oh Jah, deliver me through these days…” he sings the chorus with devotion. He then sombered the mood with Strange Happenings, depicting a lot of the worrying happenings in the world today. Following with what many may think is the solution, love. He urged listeners to play Same So for their crush.

He brilliantly put a close to the set with Who Knows from Ancient Future. Ending the session with a reminder to everyone in the West Indies that we’re ‘stuck’ at home but we’ll be alright. Although we’re under restrictions, for us at home in Jamaica, there’s always a getaway waiting- we’re surrounded by the sunshine, rivers and trees.

After an album launch, Protoje and his band would usually begin to tour but with COVID-19 keeping things digital, this is what we’ll have to enjoy for now. The artiste has expressed on social media how he couldn’t contain his burning feeling of wanting to be on stage again, in front of a live audience. And his fans miss him just as much.

The video was shot and produced by talented Jamaicans, Yannick Reid and Travis-John ‘Habibi’ Bailey, with set direction by Lindsey Lodenquai and assistance by Aaliyah Hinds.
