Capleton has spent more than three decades setting stages on fire. On August 30, the Fireman is bringing the heat to Jamaica’s north coast — and this time, Culture is Rising.
The reggae and dancehall icon will headline ENCORE LIVE: Culture Rising at Plantation Cove in St. Ann, anchoring a six-hour celebration that pulls together live reggae, sound-system culture and some serious Jamaican musical pedigree.
Presented by Midas Entertainment and 8 Rivaz Ultra Lounge, the day-to-evening experience runs from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. and will also feature reggae singer Nesbeth and celebrated saxophonist Dean Fraser, with DJ Delano of Renaissance and legendary St. Ann sound system Bass Odyssey controlling the musical atmosphere.
But at the centre of it all is a man who has never needed much help raising the temperature.
Known interchangeably as The Prophet and The Fireman, Capleton has built one of the most explosive catalogues in Jamaican music, with Tour, Jah Jah City, That Day Will Come, Who Dem? and Or Wah remaining weapons in a live-performance arsenal developed over more than 30 years.
And while plenty of veteran artistes learn to conserve energy with age, Capleton apparently never received that memo.
His performances remain famously physical — running, jumping, preaching and commanding audiences with the intensity of an artiste who still seems determined to win over the last person standing at the back of the venue.

Reggae Heads North
Culture Rising serves as the culminating summer staging of the ENCORE LIVE SERIES, envisioned as a premium reggae-inspired entertainment platform mixing Jamaican music, sound-system culture, hospitality and destination entertainment.
Part of the concept is simple: give audiences more opportunities to see Jamaica’s leading performers on the country’s north coast.
Plantation Cove provides an obvious setting.
The St. Ann venue has increasingly become home to major Jamaican entertainment events, and Midas Entertainment is turning the final weekend of August into a two-day summer send-off.
On Saturday, August 29, Sophisticated: The Summer End Beach Party will feature Vanessa Bling, Trippple X, Bishop Escobar and Illusion Sound.
Twenty-four hours later, the mood shifts from beach party to cultural firestorm as Culture Rising takes over.
And Capleton intends to supply the spark.
After more than three decades, countless stages and a catalogue that has travelled from Kingston dances to international festivals, The Prophet remains one of Jamaican music’s most combustible performers.
On August 30, Culture Rising won’t have to search very far for its ignition switch.
The Fireman will already be in the building.
