Charly Black And J Capri’s ‘Whine & Kotch’ Certified Silver In The UK
Whine & Kotch, the 2012 collaboration between Charly Black and the late J Capri, was certified Silver by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) on Friday (January 30). It commemorates sales and streaming equivalents exceeding 200,000 units in the United Kingdom, according to The Official Charts Company.
Produced by Rvssian for his Head Concussion Records imprint, Whine & Kotch arrived during a wave of male-dominated “gyal tunes.” However, J Capri’s vocal presence flipped the script, giving women authority on the dancefloor with unapologetic instruction.
The song has racked up over 127 million streams on Spotify, while its vintage music video—featuring Capri in her signature fishnets and chunky gold jewelry—has surpassed 78 million views on YouTube.
This is the first UK certification for J Capri, whose career was tragically cut short following a motor vehicle accident in December 2015.
For Charly Black, the accolade adds more metal to his collection. It is his second single to be certified in the UK, following his global smash Gyal You A Party Animal, which was certified Gold (400,000 units) in 2025. That track also went Gold (500,000 units) in the US back in 2019.
Born Jordan Phillips on Christmas Eve, J Capri was the daughter of recording artist Kenneth ‘Glamour Murphy’ Phillips. A true student of the game, she grew up sitting in studio sessions with her father before finding her own sound under the guidance of Rvssian in 2010. Often credited with bridging the gap between dancehall, hip hop, and R&B, she is considered a prototype for modern crossover acts like Shenseea, Jada Kingdom, and Stalk Ashley.
“She is still remembered by Dancehall fans,” her father, Glamour Murphy, previously told DancehallMag. “Sometimes mi wonder if she did still de ya, can you image in the impact? She pave the way for the Jada Kingdom dem and the Stalk Ashley.”
“That is not a regular occurrence for straight dancehall to cross over that way, just straight dancehall. She was going to be huge,” he added.
Despite a recording career that spanned just five years, she built a formidable catalog of hits—including Pull Up To Mi Bumper (with Konshens), Boom and Bend Over and Reverse It—and continues to draw over 850,000 monthly listeners on Spotify.
