Reggae star Christopher Martin has begun to cancel upcoming gigs like the recent Food, Rum and Reggae benefit festival after experiencing lingering pain after taking a sudden fall during his performance at the One Nation Reggae Festival on Friday in Sierra Leone a few weeks ago.

Martin had been performing at the Radisson Blu Garden when the incident occurred. The ‘Big Deal’ singer actually fell through the stage because of technical issues on stage, which led to what he described as “a very unfortunate situation.”

The singer had been forced to obtain medical leave because of his injuries.

“I am currently still undergoing medical evaluation and my doctor has advised me to take a few days of complete rest. I’m truly grateful it wasn’t worse. Because of this, I will not be able to perform at the festival,” the singer said in a social media post.

“This was a really hard decision because I never want to disappoint my supporters, and I was truly looking forward to seeing you and being a part of this event. But right now, I have to prioritize healing so I can return to the stage at full strength.”

Sources close to the singer said that he is in “a lot of pain and discomfort” and had to obtain medical leave of absence and prescribed rest from a medical practitioner.

“He may miss other upcoming shows which will be a significant loss of revenue for him including contracted performances in Kenya,” the source said.

Martin is in talks with the Ministry of Culture in Sierra Leone to recoup revenue and potentially avoid the possibility of a lawsuit associated with the injuries sustained in the fall.

Martin is one of reggae’s most beloved contemporary voices. Since rising to prominence after winning Digicel Rising Stars in 2005, Martin has delivered numerous charting singles and radio staples. Among his biggest hits are: Cheater’s Prayer, Paper Loving (Paper Girl), I’m a Big Deal, and Magic — a long-standing favourite on Caribbean radio and on global reggae playlists.

Over the years, Martin has toured extensively across Europe, Africa, and the Caribbean, building a reputation as both a powerful live performer and one of Jamaica’s most consistent hitmakers.
