Sean Paul’s ‘The Trinity’ Album Certified 2X Platinum In The US
The Trinity, Sean Paul‘s aptly titled third studio album, is now certified 2X Platinum in the United States. According to the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), the album reached the sales and streaming equivalent of 2,000,000 units sold in the country on Thursday (March 28).
This marks another milestone for the 18-track album that had originally reached platinum status just five months after its release in September 2005.
It was Paul’s second consecutive platinum-selling album, following Dutty Rock, which is currently certified 3X Platinum in the US.
The Trinity was recorded entirely in Jamaica with some of the island’s finest producers, including Donovan “Don Corleon” Bennett, Rohan “Jah Snowcone” Fuller, Steven “Lenky” Marsden, Craig “Leftside” Parks, and Supa Dups.
The album’s original release featured vocal contributions from Wayne Marshall, Nina Sky, Tami Chynn, Looga Man, and Kid Kurup, but a special expanded edition was later released internationally, which also found Sean Paul working with Carlos Santana, Joss Stone, and Rhianna (on Break it Off).
The album’s biggest hit was the chart-topping third single, Temperature, which became his second No. 1 solo song on the Billboard Hot 100 after Dutty Rock‘s Get Busy (2002). Temperature has since been certified triple platinum in the United States and double platinum in the United Kingdom.
The Trinity also delivered other hot tracks like We Be Burnin‘, which peaked at No. 6 on the Hot 100 and certified platinum, and Give It Up To Me, which had a Keyshia Cole version that reached No. 3 on the Hot 100 and was later certified Gold.
It also featured the songs Ever Blazin’, Never Gonna Be The Same, and Breakout.
The album itself peaked at No. 7 on the Billboard 200 chart, No. 1 on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart, and No. 11 on the UK Albums chart. It is currently certified Platinum in the US for sales exceeding 1,000,000 units and Gold in the UK for sales exceeding 100,000 units.
Sean, who emerged on the Dancehall music scene in the early 1990s, has released eight studio albums, starting with Stage One (VP Records) in 2000.
His second album, Dutty Rock, released under Atlantic in 2002, earned Paul the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album in 2004. In 2006, The Trinity was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album, but lost to Damian Marley’s Welcome To Jamrock.
Paul has eight other Grammy nominations, including Best New Artist, Best Male Rap Solo Performance for Get Busy, and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for Cheap Thrills, a collab with Australian singer Sia.
His last two albums, the Grammy-nominated Live N Livin and Scorcha, peaked at No. 9 and No. 6 on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart, respectively.
