Several members of the Dancehall fraternity sent well wishes to incarcerated deejay Vybz Kartel yesterday (January 7, 2024) as he celebrated his 48th birthday. The Worl’ Boss, who had made a post himself from earlier in the day thanking God for the milestone, received love from the likes of Popcaan, Spice, Skillibeng, Bounty Killer, and Stefflon Don on his day.

The Unruly Boss Popcaan, who was a protégé of Kartel, opted to post two photos; one of which shows them both in their formative years.

“A more life enuh Roast vain. More blessings and health pan the Strong Day. Respect for eternity! #GAZA,” he wrote.

Queen of Dancehall Spice did a more elaborate spin on her post, staying true to her theatric nature. She paid respects to the deejay, alongside her sister Fenise, who was also coincidentally celebrating her birthday.

“I celebrate you every day, every where I go, rain ☔️ or sunshine ☀️ but today is just more special. Happy birthday @vybzkartel G.O.A.T 🐐 Thank you for feeding my family…,” she said in part in her joint birthday tribute.

Bounty Killer, the five-star general, also dug deep into his archive for a 20-year-old photo of him and Kartel for the special occasion.

“Up To Di Time album launch 04 weh some pooosie did deh 🤔,” Bounty Killer began.

“Addi and Daddi dem a nuh nobody earth blessings and lessons more life and prosperity freedom is near have no fear yu hear mad love youth Rhum Rhum @vybzkartel GAZA NATION GUH LOAD UP DAT NOWWW YOWWW!”

British/Jamaican rapper Stefflon Don took a more subtle approach in sending her regards. She posted a photo to her story, which Kartel later reposted.

“Happy birthday to mi TEACHAAA @vybzkartel 🏆 🥇 🔥,” she said.

Vybz Kartel’s eldest son Likkle Vybz, who, along with his younger brother Likkle Addi, have budding music careers of their own, also sent a shoutout to his dad, whom he recently saw for the first time in years.

Kartel, whose given name of Adidja Palmer, is currently serving a life sentence for the murder of Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams. He was initially given 35 years before being eligible for parole. In 2014, the Jamaica Court Of Appeal largely upheld the conviction but reduced his parole serving time to 32 years and six months.

Earlier this year, the Privy Council rejected Vybz Kartel’s efforts to introduce fresh evidence and additional grounds for appeal in the matter. However, the main arguments in the appeal are still to be heard.
