Sizzla’s Son Melekú Is A ‘Son Of His,’ And 11 More New Songs

As we’ve eased into the summer, the Dancehall stars have delivered with a copious supply of music to update your playlist. Joining the new summer releases this week are some of our favorite artists – Vybz Kartel, Squash, Jada Kingdom, Busy Signal, Charly Black, Konshens, and Govana & Shaniel Muir with their must-see music video.

Melekú – Son Of His

Rising talent Melekú pays tribute to his father Sizzla Kalonji with a new single, Son Of His. Produced by Bashment Records, the new track conveys refreshing elements of Dancehall and Hip-Hop with easy R&B flows. Speaking on the song’s concept, Melekú noted, “Son of His echoes the voices of inner-city youths – In addition to the fact that I am son to a cultural icon and community leader.” “As a creative, who grew up amongst the Kingston garrison of August Town, I saw it fit to capture that whole energy within this track.” Son Of His is the singer’s first single off his upcoming EP, Jumpout Pack 1.0.

Govana, Shaneil Muir – Mannaz

Dancehall comrades Govana and Shaneil Muir have kicked things up a notch for a theatrical performance in the new music video for their latest single Mannaz. A geekily dressed Govana with a slight stutter hasn’t been the most loyal husband and from the looks of it, he cheated with the wrong girl. Top Gyal Shaneil isn’t into games, “Ah money mi ah look a wha’mp to you umbre, mi want a big fat ride about 6.5 mill,” she demands after sneaking into his home. With his wife just a stone’s throw away in the yard, Shaneil warns, “Ah bet you sey mi make you wife leff, ah bet you sey you write me check!” The saga continues below – watch.

10Tik – Pi Pi

In his feature on the NFT Drip riddim, 10Tik brings his sonic-sounding Pi Pi to take listeners through a thought-provoking snippet of life with his ‘shorty’. It’s a chill set in the Shane Creative visual display, though the scenes capture laidback vibes at home with his girl and easy grooving with his crew in his stomping grounds, a ever-guarded 10Tik remains vigilant of his surroundings.

Vybz Kartel – Likkle Bit So

Calling on video director Chrome ENT, along with a team of actors and dancers, Vybz Kartel released theatre-quality visuals this week for his latest single Likkle Bit So. Co-produced by Redboom Supamix Productions and his label Adidjahiem Records, the track is another of the Worl Boss’s signature girls’ anthem hyping the females who are “little bit so” and in a league of their own.

Squash – Foot

The 6ix Boss Squash is back to “kill dem wid style” in his latest single Foot, produced by World Team Productions and his 6ix Real Records label. Dropping some fancy footwork with an entourage of friends in the Directorbadz music video, the deejay appeared to have caused this dancefloor-ready banger to go viral – watch here.

Brysco – 10th Floor 

For his latest track 10th Floor, Dancehall star Brysco taps producers Daze and DJ Mac Productions for a sample of Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg’s iconic 1999 collab on The Next Episode. It’s a party on the 10th Floor with Brysco and his crew in the music video (by Negus Multimedia), and nothing is off-limits as he lyrics in the track, “Pop pill chilling, gwan bad, expose uno t#tties …Grabba Leaf, hot Guinness” are just some of the offerings at his exclusive event.

Chronic Law – Murdera

Chronic Law appears on the Escape 21 riddim this week with his new single Murdera. In the track, the Law Boss finesses his way through callous verses of bloodshed and gunplay to detail a personal account of a day in the life of a murderer.

Teejay – Blue Cheese 

Teejay has made it in life, “Living like Shabba Ranks [and] have a trailer load of gal,” and the “Blue Cheese” to prove it. The music video, directed by Lagikz Supreme, captures highlights of the Dancehall singer’s very successful career, appearing on stage at overcrowded shows and partying with friends while sipping on an endless supply of liquor and tossing around $100 bills – because he can.

Jada Kingdom – Next Time

Jada Kingdom has delivered what could be considered the breakup song of the summer. Dubbed, Next Time, the Dancehall songbird plays on light cheery notes to detail her decision to walk away from a “unique” love affair. “I’m not the type to hold you downJust go on live your best life, we can try again a next time,” she sings in saccharine vocals as the music video (directed by Anton Anderson) sees her releasing her love interest from the shackles of their bond– watch here:

Busy Signal, Charly Black – Whining Vixen

Busy Signal and Charly Black have just the right Dancehall track to set your waistline in motion. With an impressive selection of “Whining Vixens” in the Warrior Filmz-directed music video, the two deliver their electrifying choruses to spur epic dance vibes on this one – watch below.

I Octane – Vibrate & Shake 

A di gyal dem song disOctane asserts in the intro of his new single Vibrate & Shake. After dropping the audio track a few weeks ago, the music video hits just the right note for summer, i.e. with beautiful women, sexy swimwear, and lots of whining with I-Octane poolside front and center.

Konshens, Charly Black – Gyal Time Again

It’s “Gyal Time Again” and no one gets the females in the mood better than Konshens and Charly Black. With a crew of bendy dancers to steal the show, the two deejays set off dance-effecting vibes to get you in a party state of mind.
