Shelly Belly Crowned Dancing King

After 23 years as a Dancehall dance innovator, Shelly Belly was crowned Dancing King at an event held on Lyndhurst Road titled Yard and Abroad A Knock E Ball, on Saturday, May 28.  The honor came courtesy of Uk-based Fada Del, who has been a strong supporter of the long-standing Dancehall entertainer.

“I feel elated, I got what I deserved. I have been doing this for a long and a long time we been a tell dem I am the dancing King,” the excited Kingston native told DancehallMag.

Attendees who witnessed the crowning of Shelly Belly are, New Sensation Sound from the UK, with special coverage by broadcasting station Don Sinclair Reggae Vibes, which became an official YouTube partner in 2015, Down Sound Records, Marcy Chin, and a plethora of Dancehall fans.

The crowning was ushered in by Dancehall artist Harry Toddler who had a wealth of applauding words to bestow on the dancer.  “People from the Dancehall fraternity admire Shelly Belly, Shelly Belly put artist pon the map, Shelly Belly put dancer pon the map,” he said.

The Dancehall deejay didn’t stop there as he challenged anyone who may have opposed to the crowning by adding, “one ting mi wah seh, if yuh have anything bad against Shelly Belly, get it out a yuh now cause tonight he is gonna be crowned.”

Dressed in a full white ensemble, Shelly Belly who has been a consistent dancer since 1999, was called in from the crowd while he was dancing. Soon after, a large white chair with regal appeal was placed for him to be seated, as the Cow Foot creator basked comfortably in his seat.

The admiring spectators paid close attention to the moment that gave the 37-year-old the well-deserved spotlight.

“I want to take on the world again, my biggest dream is to perform on BET and start touring every week as Jamaica’s Dancing King, and I thank everyone for their support,” he told DancehallMag.  “I want to open a dance studio and have official classes teaching the culture to the world, as a King I have to have a studio.”

Some of the renowned dance moves created by Shelly Belly are Cow Foot, Shelly Belly, Nineties Rock, Spin The Chain, Step Pass Dem, Belle Belle, Tek Ova and a host of others.

In March of this year, reputed King of Dancehall Vybz Kartel had proclaimed to the world that Shelly Belly was the Dancing King and that he is to be given his flowers for his dedication to the Dancehall culture.
