It was a weekend of firsts for Jamaica’s Trending Gyal Shenseea, who made her debut at the Billboard MusicCon 1 Day Concert on Saturday—before tapping into her versatility and becoming an award presenter at the Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas, Nevada on Sunday night.

The 25-year-old, who was clearly prepared for her speech, presented the Pepsi Mic Drop Award to Glass Animals for their chart-topping Billboard hit, Heat Waves.

Clad in a long, brown fur dress accentuated with green, red, pink, and white coupled with two thigh-high splits, the Blessed singer greeted the packed audience in her native tongue.

“First I gotta give a shout-out to my country Jamaica real quick, Billboard Wah Gwan,” she beamed.

She gave the audience a rundown on the origin of the Pepsi Mic Drop, as well as Glass Animal’s incredible success on the Billboard Charts, courtesy of their award-winning track. Heat Wave ascended to No. 1 on the Charts on March 12 this year, after gaining a spot on it for the first time on January 16, 2021. Taking 59 weeks to achieve this feat, Heat Wave’s climb was ‘the longest, continuous rise in history to get to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Charts.’

The Blessed singer’s guest of honor and date for the Awards was her six-year-old son Rajeiro Lee. The only child perfectly complemented his rising star mother in a pair of gold and black pants, black jacket and shirt and a black bow tie with dark shades—perhaps to shield from the scores of flashing cameras on the red carpet.

During her interview with Billboard on the Red Carpet, Shenseea admitted to being a nervous wreck ahead of her presentation.

She also touched on the conceptualization for the official music video of the controversial single, Lick, which featured American rapper Megan Thee Stallion. Shenseea said she put on her co-director’s hat, to come up with ways to make her collaborator feel confident in the video.  “I originally said I want Megan to feel comfortable in this video, so I helped to co-direct it,” she explained. “I said I wanted to play on her body…you know I’m tiny tiny and she’s much bigger than I am, so I said I want her to feel so comfortable with her size. I actually put myself in a giant like how people would portray her…the roles just switched sometimes.”

The interviewer also asked Shenseea about her pending projects with rapper Diddy, who was also at Sunday’s awards and spotted in a photo alongside the Jamaican star.

“We’re working on something. I mean, I’m a person who likes to show my work instead of just talking about it. So, you just have to stay tuned, to be honest,” she said.

Meanwhile, the Run Run singer served up a spicy performance on Saturday at MusicOne, as one of the two headlining acts—the other being Brazilian singer Anitta.

ShenYeng, along with her backup dancers all dressed in red, put on a crowd rocking show. She rendered singles from her debut album Alpha, including R U That and Deserve It.

In the highly interactive set, the Jamaican entertainer, in her usual fashion, invited patrons on stage to dance with her.

After this weekend, Shenseea has scored major points, both in fashion and her ability to work the stage (in performing and award presenting) based on remarks by social media users.

Local fashion designer Neko “Bootleg Rocstar” Kelly gave her her flowers.  “Shenseea is not only gonna be a global music star but a fashion force if she keeps improving the fromula✨” he tweeted.

“Shenseea presenting at the Billboard. Our girl really up there,” said another Twitter user.
