Skillibeng Gets Roasted Over New Song ‘Whap Whap’

The role of the CARICOM Single Market & Economy (CSME) was among a slew of topics that came up for discussion on Twitter, following Skillibeng’s release of the music video for another of his trap fusions, titled this time, Whap Whap, part of which was shot in Trinidad.

Amidst the unified roasting of Skilli by Jamaicans and their Trinidadian counterparts, Reggae historian and attorney-at-law Wayne Chen, who co-authored the book Reggae Routes: The Story of Jamaican Music, had shared the link to Whap Whap which features upcoming artist F.S, with his followers, on Friday afternoon.

“Skillibeng in Trinidad. Not what the architects of CARICOM Single Market & Economy (CSME) had in mind. But here we are, in need of a conversation,” he noted of the integrated development strategy, which seeks to implement provisions for the removal of trade and professional restrictions in the Caribbean.

Under the CSME, provisions are made for musicians including players of instruments, singers, songwriters, band/orchestra leaders, conductors, promoters and events managers to have free movement of skills.  Albeit the existence of the CSME, the video of Skilli and the back-up men/extras being allowed to prance around with rifles while singing about causing mayhem, in the video, is poles apart from what was tolerated in the late 2000s, when several Jamaican Dancehall artists were banned from Trinidad and several other Caribbean countries, due to violent and crude lyrics.

However, since the release of Whap Whap, Jamaicans and Trinidadians have been in one accord on Twitter, with one Trini publication stating that West Indians on the platform, had “roasted Skilli’s tail like a galvanised room with no lasko fan”.

‘Whap Whap’

Nationals of both countries found his continued use of the phrase ‘whap whap” hilarious, the majority coming to the conclusion that the sound was a reflection of those which emanated from the belts of his parents whenever he got a flogging.

“Skillibeng was thinking about the childhood cut ass when he made that song. How the belt go “WHAP WHAP WHAP!!!” Aphrodite jeered.

“The sound the belt make when my moda used to whip me…. ‘ WHAP WHAP WHAP ‘ 😂😂,” Sonre msan wrote.

Others likened the lyrics to nursery school rhymes.

“Skillibeng just seh kill them with onomatopoeia and done,” Brandonage jeered.

“That is the worst song since the start of the year… And I meant in the entire solar system,” RoiMackoy said in expressing incredulity.

Skillibeng is dumb nice he just making these abc ass songs cause he knows they gunna get the most attention,” another added.

Some Trinis wondered why Skilli had traveled all the way from Jamaica to do the video.

“Skillibeng really come trini to sing that sh-t?” Skipper said, while Johnathan Aqui added: “Skillibeng fly quite Trinidad to say whapwhapwhap over and over?”

“Sometimes I feel like skillibeng is used as a social experiment to see how much shit Trinidadians willing to listen to,” Skipper said, while KaijuPengu wailed: “Skillibeng choose my little nation to sing dat dogsh-t bai”.

“Whap Whap Whap Whap!… wdmc dey really make Skillibeng come here to sing boii,” Jabari, another Trinidadian national lamented.

“Doh ever let skillibeng comeback down here,” one woman ordered.

Then there were those Jamaicans who said that Skilli had deceived them into thinking he was talented.

“Can we finally admit that skillibeng is the original choppa, the way the man fooled all of Jamaica that he had talent,” Tyrese said.

“Skillibeng is the biggest flopping disappointment ever. Forget the stupid views and hype. Lyrically he’s got nothing left other than repetition,” Mr_Jan_1 wrote.

Others said Skilli’s intention might have been to provide comic relief.

“At this point in life I only listen skillibeng new songs when I wanna laugh,” Junior said, while misathedon “ noted: Skillibeng is hilarious to me lmaooooo how yuh fi tek him serious,” said.

“Dancehall a gwan good. Then skillibeng just come with the joke badness,” Jaded King added.

“Dancehall is a comedy now! Let me get the whap outa here 😂😂😂,” RockingVybz said.

There were also claims of exasperation with Skilli.

“Skillibeng back with another f_ckery song. Lord send help,” Droppaz9 said.

“Somebody PLEASEEE talk to skillibeng. Me Cyah take it no more dawg,” a seemingly flabbergasted Baby said.

“Skillibeng really just making music for fun cause tf was this new song,” another added.

American fans had some thoughts too.

The American media platform Baller Alert also shared clips of Skilli’s new video along with the fact that he was RCA Records’ newest signee.

“Lawd a mercy, dis ain’t it,” iamlizbeth74 wrote.

“Lol what in the Elementary nonsense rapping is going on?!😂🙄 look rapping ain’t for everybody go get a real job. Cause this ain’t it !!😂😂” added k_bsm.
