Shenseea’s ‘Deserve It’ Is A Whole New Sound And “Vibe”

Jamaican singer Shenseea brought a whole new sound and vibe with the release of her latest single, Deserve It which premiered today (Thursday, March 3) ahead of her debut album ALPHA next week.

It’s giving, “bubble gum, butterflies, feeling like a kid again, colors, good energy and just a vibe,” Shenseea told Apple Music’s Zane Lowe when asked about the Rvssian-produced song.

Co-written by Shenseea, Rvssian, and Andrew Green (whom she described as an “American writer”), Deserve It finds the Blessed singer, “laid up, sippin’ on that kool-aid” as she fascinates over the “perfect” guy.

“It’s a vibe. It’s a vibe. This one was also co-written, too, by an American writer too. So it was really much of just, I told him I wanted something running, with less space, and I wanted them to help me create it and they did just that. I feel like it’s perfect,” she said.  “The song is literally about a vibe.”

“I feel like I just unlocked a different side of my voice, which is a more girlier, kid type, because I’ve never done a song like this, to be honest. I’ve never done something like that. But I feel like that’s why I can’t stop listening to. It’s so new to hear from myself. And on top of it, it’s a good sound,” she continued.

On ALPHA, Shenseea told Lowe that she has been exploring new sounds.  Deserve It will join her previously released collab with rapper 21 Savage titled R U That, and the Soca music-inspired Lick, featuring rapper Megan Thee Stallion.  Shenseea’s 2019 hit Blessed with Tyga is also featured on the 14 track set.

“This album is me experimenting. So yes, there’s a vibe like this that you’ve never heard, but there are also other songs that you’ve never heard a vibe like that either,” she said. “So I feel like what I’m doing now with this album is like, I’m going to put it out there and then I’m going to see what people reaction. If they react to everything, then trust me, they beat.”

“Shoot, you going to have to put me in every single category, which is my aim. I want them to know that I’m versatile and also accept it. Not wanting me to stick to one genre or one style of music”.

The Jamaican singer, 25, is scheduled to make her first late-night TV appearance, on Jimmy Kimmel Live! tonight (March 3).
