As we roll into the New Year, many of Dancehall’s most prolific entertainers such as Teejay, Govana, Squash and Intence have kicked things off with some hot new tracks for your Dancehall playlist.

Others acts like Christopher Martin and Jahmiel also came through with new releases this week that opened the doors to their love situationships. The newcomers are out in their numbers and taking charge, joining the likes of Silk Boss, who is currently dominating the local trending charts with his new track, Trust.

Teejay – I’ll Touch The Sky

Like many people going through tough times, singer sensation Teejay relates a mutual battle in his new single I’ll Touch The Sky that released yesterday (January 12). “I wish I had wings to touch the sky, surely fly away enuh, from all dem ting weh a gwan in a mi life,” he croons in his usually soulful tones on the hook. The Xtreme Arts-directed music video is just as poignant as the song’s narrative, showing a story of a father struggling to make ends meet while bereaved by the passing of his little angel.

Tarrus Riley, 10Tik – Tears of Joy

Tears Of Joy, by reggae star Tarrus Riley and dancehall newcomer 10Tik, is produced by Shane C. Brown and TMI Records for Stars Talent and Jukeboxx Jamaica. “What a great song at a perfect time. So many people are losing loved ones,” wrote one fan on the Prof & Kryss Ras-directed visuals.  In 2021, Tarrus Riley and 10Tik both suffered the loss of a close relative.

Govana – Power Up

Dancehall storyteller Govana is already Trending For Music at no. 10 on YouTubeJM with his new single Power Up that released two days ago. In the track, Govi Govi calls on ‘every ghetto youth to power up,’ much like he had to in his earlier days. He takes listeners through the tough times of eating curry chicken back but …“Mi tun unhappy days in a happy nights, only happy tears from mi mommy eyes” now, he sings in the Crash Dummy and Raheef Music Group-produced single. The music video, courtesy of RD Studios gives hope to the youths, showing a collage of imageries from his many stage performances, proud fan moments and other successes.

Squash – Sweepstake Life

Produced by Hemton Music and 6ix Real Records, Sweepstake Life from Squash rides on a trippy, dance effecting beat to “make ey place nice.” The Dancehall star shows his lyrical prowess on this one while reassuring the haters “You know how long mi rich, mi never haffi tun nuh artist.” The fans are loving this latest issue from the 6ix Boss; the track has currently garnered over 220k views and Trending for Music on YouTubeJM at no. 6 after just one day of hitting the airwaves.

Christopher Martin – Come Closer To Me

In his first release of the New Year, Christopher Martin comes through with this pop-infused Dancehall love song to set off playful romantic moods. The music video, which was shot by Samo Kush-I and Fernando Fernandez Hevia of Filmaica captures the Dancehall singer and his love interest in several flirtatious scenes before taking their love to the next level, “Back it up pon mi baby, ooh yeah, you make mi pressure rise and mi blood a boil up … you likkle dress a ride up when you start fi wine up pon me.”

Silk Boss – Trust

Fast-rising talent Silk Boss is back again with another single Trust. By dodging the deceitful ones in his life, he looks for guidance up above, “Jah Jah protect my life cause me don’t know who fi trust, and me don’t know who fi love,” he sings in the verses. The Neiro Don-directed music video takes viewers through a cruel act of betrayal as the young singer evades being poisoned. The short film is now no. 4 Trending For Music on YouTubeJM with over 330k views.

Jahmiel – Too Far, So Close

Too Far, So Close by Jahmiel debuted this week to relay a touching narrative of what could have been. After realizing his mistakes with an ex, the Dancehall singer wallows in regret as he watches her move on with someone else. “Now all I have is memories, memories don’t get old, I was too far but so close. Taking you for granted, now access denied, wish mi could a turn back the hands of the time…” in sings in the song, which was produced by Sweet Music Production. The video sees Jahmiel lurking in the distance as he watches the love of his life marry another man.

Intence – New Gear

YengBadness Boss Intence continues to rack up favors with his fans; his January 1 release, New Gear is performing at the top of its class, hitting over a million views and Trending for Music on YouTubeJM at the No. 1 spot. Produced by Nuh Breaks Recordz, the new single finds the Dancehall star fighting the same inner battles of his fellow neighbor and the youths. While praying a passionate prayer, he implores, “Ghetto youths want house and big Benz, we nuh want no guns … if gone, who a go deh yah fi the kids dem.” The KD Visualz shows another side of the usually composed deejay as he tussles about in bed while tuning his fervent verses.

 YK Kastro – Zoom

Newcomer YK Kastro is gaining momentum since breaking out in the music business last year. His latest CashCode Record-produced track Zoom is currently no. 9 Trending For Music after just a week of its release and has received YK’s highest streams yet, already amassing over 400k views. In the track, the young star says it takes more than just talent to reach his levels, and dishes his “game changing” approach to his success.

 Blvk H3ro, Something D’Lux – The Greatest

In another of his inspiring lyrical dissemination, Reggae singer, Blvk H3ro exhibits his “greatness” in this new track. The verses are profoundly motivating as he confidently spits, “I can’t fail, born great on to victory, say I can’t fail, born great, this a the story of the greatest,” and “I’m on the fast train to greatness, no debating … but this road I’m taking, history in the making more patience no breaking, I made it, the story of the greatest.” The music video by producers Zach Staggers and Eitan Noyze, and director Filipe Zapelini, follows the young talent in and around his homeland to capture views of rural Jamaica.

Chronic Law – Paranioa

It’s no secret the Law Boss is as guarded as they come. The Drop Top Records produced Paranioa is a song that’s close to home for the deejay. He’s unable to sleep at nights he says, “ Still a hide from the past. Nuh see nuttn but dark when mi look in a di glass. Mi a suffer from som’n name paranoia.” In the Kyng Kreative music video, which is currently Trending for Music on YouTubeJM at no. 3, the Dancehall deejay hangs about with his crew, fully armed as though awaiting an imminent ambush.

 Jahazeil Myrie – Left To Right

Reggae singer Jahazeil is overwhelmed by the burdens of a difficult life in this new song. Bombarded by hardships from ‘Left to Right’, the singer says he “Cant catch a break cause the devil is awake” and can’t even sleep at night. But for Jahazeil, he’s not backing down, “Get the lighter, fight the war with fire. Say a thousand prayer, protected by the Mesiah.”
