Dancehall stars Charly Black and Konshens have been riding high since the release of their albums last year. Rio Bueno comes as a debut from the Trelawny native and Red Reign stands as the fifth studio release from Konshens. Both albums shared the release date November 12. Since then, both artists have toured in support of their productions.

Charly Black enjoyed several stops in the United States and closed the year with major appearances, leading up to what reports on Nairobi News are calling, “rousing cheers from his fans with an electric performance” at an NYE concert.

One such appearance saw Charly Black at a show where Konshens was the main star at the Carnivore grounds in Nairobi, the very same night where Charly performed at the NYE Glow Festival held at the Ngong Racecourse grounds.

Some reports suggest that Charly Black was disappointed with the turn out of his show and after he performed, left Ngong Racecourse to enjoy and support fellow deejay Konshens, who is “a legend in Kenya as King of Dancehall,” according to Nairobi News.

Sharing a clip of the concert to his Instagram profile, the SYM singer is seen giving an impromtu performance at his colleague’s show and captioned the post:

“Respect goes wherever it came from…big up to me Breda Konshens him never diss me or hype pon me or try style me yet like some others…We both had show’s in Kenya last weekend but my show finished before his so me and my team went to show our support not even intended to perform but just to be there and hold a vibe with him an his fans but he called me out to sing a one song and anybody knows me know that I show respect to those who show me respect plus me always a say unity. With that being said, the dancehall massive in Kenya Nairobi was very happy to see us on one stage together.”

Charly went on to thank Kemar Highcon in the post who also had separate appearances in Kenya, closing out 2021 on a memorable note for all three artists representing the dancehall genre in East Africa.

In a separate post to his IG page, Konshens shared a similar clip of himself introducing Charly Black on stage to roaring cheers from his fans.

He captioned the post: “When this sh** is filled with so many selfish all fi dem self man weh wah dem alone have success an dem alone name call inna history its so refreshing to see people jus a rep fi DANCEHALL wid nuttn backa it. BIG UP Charly Black for passing thru my show after his .We been a wave di JM flag GLOBALLY. Yah legend nuh watch e hype. History cyaa erase.”

Several top players in dancehall shared the sentiment and showed their support of both artists who demonstrated unity as Jamaicans on the international stage.

“I love the unity, brothers in music,” was the sentimental comment left by mouthy selector Tony Matterhorn under the previous IG post.

Reggae singer Christopher Martin simply blazed the fire emoji under the video, to which Kenyan fans quipped with “its your turn now”, “come to Kenya”.

Spice chimed in with “How dancehall is supposed to be”.

A collaboration between the artists seem to be brewing for 2022 as Charly Black cautioned the ladies to look out for “a bad dancehall track coming soon”.
