Mixpak Records owner and producer Dre Skull has released a deluxe version of Kingston Story, the 16-track project by incarcerated deejay Vybz Kartel to mark its 10th anniversary. This time, however, two additional tracks were added; Drinkin & Smokin and an acoustic version of Ghetto Youth (Survival Story).

The New York-based producer shared the news on his Instagram page on Thursday.

“10 years later and it continues to connect. Thankfull!! To celebrate 10 years since the release of @vybzkartel’s classic “Kingston Story”, we’re releasing a special 10th anniversary deluxe edition of the album. Out now!!,” he captioned a photo of the album cover.

In a 2011 interview on Hype TV, Vybz Kartel whose given name is Adidja Palmer spoke highly of Dre Skull’s skills, and noted that the project would have been one to anticipate. He spoke of the length of time it took to perfect the project.

“Mi nuh know weh Dre Skull come from enuh, mi a tell you seh da bredda deh, the man out of this world. I met him initially bout two years ago or so, and I did a single called Yuh Love and it was getting a lot of love… we were talking over the internet and he said, ‘why don’t you just do an album? Because mi like yuh vibe’ and mi a seh, yeah man, mi like how you build riddim. As a man weh come from America, how him interpret dancehall and build dancehall riddim, it is so real and so true to what dancehall is…he flew down, we did the first tracks or so, him love dem, (then) him fly out because we did the albums in segments. I think him fly down four time and we did the tracks,” the Teacha explained.

“I’m so excited about the album, I feel like it’s my first album. The production, pre-production, post-production…him put so much into it. Him put him heart into it…”

Kingston Story peaked at No. 7 after two weeks on Billboard’s Reggae Albums chart in 2011.
