Samantha J Is Back, Talks New Single ‘Big Fat Benz’ And Motherhood
Jamaican singer Samantha J is back and she’s a whole ‘vibe’ with the rollout of her brand new single Big Fat Benz. Produced by Anka Music Group, the catchy dancefloor-ready tune premiered with an accompanying music video directed by Bill Fishman of Fallout Entertainment Inc. on November 12.
Known for her hit, nostalgic Red Rat-sampler Tight Skirt (2013), the singer is fresh off a brief hiatus and appears to be back with a vengeance, flaunting a pretty sassy attitude and laying down some fire dance moves—thanks to ‘choreographer to the stars’ Richy Jackson—that are likely to start another TikTok dance challenge.
Speaking on her motivation behind the track, the 25-year-old told DancehallMag that “this single Big Fat Benz is all about enjoying yourself, just feeling the vibes and of course, it’s flashy.”
“In the song, I talk about enjoying my time with my girls and how no one can hold me in the house. I’m hitting the streets in my car and partying all night if I want to,” Samantha J continued.
“My car was a part of the inspiration as well. I’m a Benz girl,” she added.
In the music video, which was shot in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, California, the Bad Like Yuh singer is seen cruising down Rodeo Drive in her “big fat” Mercedes Benz G Wagon with her girls.
In fact, the St. Anns Bay native says the substandard things in life don’t impress her, while boasting her Christian Louboutin red bottoms and the finer trends in the new visuals. “Look pon mi foot when mi walk, dat ah bare blood. Fridge pon mi wrist and mi neck. Ah nuh Samsung,” she sings.
The fans couldn’t be happier to see Samantha J back on the music scene.

Samantha, who had been taking time off since becoming a new mom, revealed Big Fat Benz is just one of more new songs in the pipeline. “I have music that I can’t wait to release. Expect more very soon,” she told DancehallMag.
Hopefully, the wait won’t be too long; life has been a little more hectic these days as she juggles motherhood and now the reboot of her music career. For Samantha, the birth of her son Trillion—who made a cameo in the intro of the new music video—has taught her more about self-love, and how to appreciate the true meaning of love.
“This journey is nothing less than beautiful! Not only do I now have an undeniable bond with my son but I’ve also developed a bond with myself like never before. Self love and appreciation plays a big part in being the best mom I can be to Trillion”, she said.
“Raising my son is a never-ending learning process and I’m blessed to have that natural motherly instinct. I tackle and deal with anything as it comes and I comprehend what it is that the baby wants and/ needs. A mother’s connection to her son is priceless. I now know the true meaning of love and I’m reminded of it everyday.”
Samantha J, whose real name is Samantha Gonsalves, is best known for her 2013 smash hit, Tight Skirt, which has topped several international charts. In 2015, she went on to release another international banger called League of My Own featuring Dej Loaf.
In 2016, she was featured in the single Light It Up, a song by Norwegian duo Marcus & Martinus. The song charted both in Norway and Sweden peaking at No. 9 on the Norwegian VG-lista chart and number 23 on the Swedish Sverigetopplistan chart. Other big hits for the Jamaican singer were Baby Love in 2017 featuring R. City (10 million views), Bad Like Yuh in 2015 (4.1 million views), and her 2017 release Rockets (1.9 million). Her 2019 collab with Shenseea and Azaryah titled Show Off, which was produced by Jonny Blaze x Stadic, stands at 1.7 million views.
