Incarcerated Dancehall artist Shawn Storm is reportedly homesick and missing his family behind bars.

According to the Jamaica Star, the My Life artist, who was jointly charged with Vybz Kartel for the murder of Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams in 2011 and is now serving a life sentence for the alleged crime, is lamenting his time locked up as 10 years of his life wasted.

In an Instagram post on October 14, the deejay wrote, “Today is 10 years fully since in lock up, 10 years a mi Life wasted, 10 years of my Life that the government took from me, 10 years of my life that I won’t get back!!! 10 years since I got my breakthrough in dancehall music.” Freedom issa must ”

His cousin and producer, Garfield ‘Still Yet’ Francis, who spoke to the Star, explained that “When him seh 10 years wasted, him mean not seeing his daughter, mother, or him family like that.”

He added that when he visits the artiste he can “see the depression on him, mi hear it inna him voice. Him waan see him mother, him wah see him daughter. Apart from that he’s very strong and healthy cause him play football daily. You know jail is a frustrating place and if nobody nuh cater fi yu or memba yuh, yuh a go feel lost, so at times mi understand how him feel and ensure she him get weh him need.”

While his cousin hasn’t visited Shawn Storm since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, because of the stringent protocols, he remains in contact with the dancehall star.

The artist will be eligible for parole after serving some 22 and half years in lock up, while co-accused Vybz Kartel will gain eligibility for parole after serving 32 and a half years in custody.

The deejays are appealing to the Privy Council in the United Kingdom.

Despite the grim outlook on Storm’s case, his cousin remains hopeful.  “He will be free soon, likewise Vybz Kartel, a just time fi this appeal go through and get the best results out of it which is freedom,” Francis said. “Mi a tell the fans to keep strong, positive, loyal and keep streaming the songs.”
