Popcaan Says “Chubble” After Steph Curry’s Straight-Faced Reaction To Ayesha Curry Liking His Music
Popcaan had only one word when he finally learned that Ayesha Curry enjoys cooking to his music: “Chubble”.
In an Instagram Live last year, the author and wife of basketball star Steph Curry promoted her cookbook The Full Plate while answering questions from her fans. When she let on that she likes to ‘buss a wine’ to Popcaan’s dancehall grooves, the deejay noted Steph Curry’s initial straight-faced expression and tagged the hoop star in his Instagram Stories yesterday with the caption, “Boss nah laugh @stephenurry30 Chubble (Trouble)” and a few laughing emojis.
Ayesha confessed that one of the best parts about being in the kitchen is Popcaan. At the time of the Instagram Live, his FIXTAPE album was still dominating Caribbean playlists. “I’m really into like Popcaan cause I love to buss a wine while I’m cooking,” Ayesha said, to which her husband responded, “I see no lies.”
Later, when asked by another fan about the song that matches the “vibe” of the book, Steph preempted her response by saying, “This is gonna be hard for her because she doesn’t ever remember the name of the songs”.
“Can I just pick Twist & Turn because that’s my jam right now?” Ayesha said. “Cause I feel like the cookbook just wants to dance and tease me (laughs).”
Ayesha Curry has never been shy to celebrate her Jamaican roots in various ways over the years. For her 30th birthday in 2019, her NBA hubby Steph Curry threw her a Jamaican-themed birthday party with live performances by Hoodcelebrityy and Konshens. The star-studded soiree was attended by the likes of Gabriel Union-Wade and Jessica Alba and clips of the Currys dancing to Wayne Wonder and Vybz Kartel quickly went viral.
She also paid homage to both Jamaica and the strong maternal ties that have shaped her path to success in an IG post last year. “Couldn’t let the day go by without showing all my love to Jamaica!!! My roots,” she wrote. “My grandma, my mom, my great aunties, aunties, uncles, my great grandma… I think about my strong Jamaican family everyday and I’m so grateful for them.”
The Full Plate has since become a New York Times bestseller, and includes Ayesha’s island-inspired food and drink favorites. “It really is a versatile cookbook and I intended for it to be that way,” she stated during the Live. A few items were also inspired by Ayesha’s family including the “modern” cocktail Jamaican Mama (her take on rum punch) and Rasta Pasta (inspired by her “aunty Donna”).
Meanwhile, Ayesha isn’t alone as the Risky deejay’s impact on all his female fans is indisputable. Bajan sensation Rihanna chose a line from his track Naked for her internet-breaking Savage Fenty post earlier this year and he’s since been featured on Megan Thee Stallion’s steamy track, Intercourse.
Popcaan’s FIXTAPE was widely hailed among his female fans for the many ladies’ anthems, which include Mamakita, Twist and Turn, Goodaz Gal, and Suh Me Luv It. The St. Thomas native has teased that the album, which debuted No. 2 on the Billboard Reggae Albums, was only the “warm up” for his next project, slated to be launched in Ghana.
A release date or title has not yet been announced.
