I Waata’s Former Manager To Seek Legal Advice After ‘Diss’ Track Released On His Birthday
Andrew ‘Boysie’ Campbell—the former manager of Dancehall artists Intence and I Waata—says he will be seeking the services of a lawyer, after the Clip Tall deejay released an alleged ‘diss’ track on Campbell’s birthday last month.
On his Instagram page yesterday, Campbell reshared a Jamaica Star interview with the manager of Genna Storm Productions, Attorney-at-Law Christopher Townsend, which focused on the mental health of recording artists. In the article, published on September 2, Townsend suggested therapy for recording artists, since many of them may be battling depression and other mental health issues that they hide behind their public image.
Boysie captioned the shady share with, “I was listening a song dis morning with iwaataaaa people. He said in the song all when mi JETTLIFE boysie did a help him, him still a Struggle. Does dat make any sense?”
“U betta mek Intence write some good song fi you. JETTLIFE forever,” he added.
The song in question was Sign, released on August 13 and produced by Crashweh Play Music and Yung Gee Ent, and Boysie has apparently taken offense at its lyrics that claim he did not help I Waata. In Sign, I Waata also allegedly mentioned the manager’s child.
“I Waata drop dis on my bday. Jamaica look [how] ungrateful di youth is. all a mention mi youth inna him song….” Boysie wrote in another post. “Mi did ago just leave dem alone but dis song yah mek mi ago put a Lawyer on it.”
The artist manager was not finished quite yet. In another post, he shared a clip of I Waata’s 2018 single Come From, in which the deejay acknowledged Boysie Records, before the affirming lyrics “old shoes mi park it.”
“Continue to make ur money but remember a who mek u park ur old shoes,” Boysie wrote in the caption of that post. “(History man Create inna dancehall buss eye waata and intence one time) show some respect,” he added.
Intence and I Waata had parted ways with Boysie Records and Campbell in the summer of last year. Though the artists have not publicly disclosed the reason for them leaving the label, Campbell had claimed that it was due to the artists’ breach of their five-year contract.
“We parted ways a month ago, but make them gwaan,” Boysie had told Loop News in August 2020. “I wish them all the best in their future endeavours, but dem fi always remember the root and how it all started and who was there for them in the beginning.”
I Waata is best known for his single Clip Tall, which has received over 6 million views on YouTube since its release on December 2, 2020.
