Bounty Killer Hopeful For “Dream” Collab With Bob Marley On Upcoming Album ‘King Of Kingston’
If the Dancehall Warlord Bounty Killer gets his wish, there’ll be a collaboration with the late King Of Reggae Bob Marley on his upcoming LP, King of Kingston.
Bounty Killer signed a publishing deal with Creative Titans, in partnership with Concord Music Publishing last month, ahead of the LP’s release this Christmas. He celebrated at Janga’s Soundbar in Kingston, where he caught up with journalist Anthony Miller of Entertainment Report and dropped more details on what will be his first album in nineteen years.
The Fed Up deejay previously hinted at the album’s enviable guest list which includes Barrington Levy, Vybz Kartel, Snoop Dogg, Busta Rhymes, Richie Stephens, OMI, Busy Signal, Chronixx, and more. In addition to that, the album is executive produced by Damian ‘Jr Gong’ Marley, and Bounty shared that he made a special request of the younger Gong for a Bob Marley song on the project.
“If I had one last song to do, that’s the song I would want to do. Jr. Gong producing the album and I asked him, and I don’t know how Chris Blackwell [Island Records Founder] gonna go about that, but that’s a collaboration I dream of,” Killer told the veteran journalist.
The Five Star General has likened himself to the third world’s first megastar in the past. Both artists have an arsenal of hits that speaks on behalf of ‘sufferers’, placing their plights before the powers that be. When Miller asked the Look Into My Eyes deejay to sum up his impact on Dancehall as he wrapped the interview, Bounty once again listed his name among the greats who’ve used the genre for ghetto people’s upliftment.
“I brought the real roots of the ghetto. I’m the one who brought ghetto life uptown,” Bounty Killer said. “I was the one who bring the people with me, I never come for Bounty, I came for us. I’m the voice of the people.”
“That’s what the people was missing, a next Bob Marley, a next Peter Tosh, so I brought the voice of the people to the table. Until this day that’s what held Bounty Killer, I always speak on the people’s behalf, I never speak selfish. I speak in the breath of us.”
