Tarrus Riley Gets Silver Certification In the UK For ‘Powerful’

Reggae singer Tarrus Riley’s feature on the 2015 single Powerful has earned him a BRIT Certified Silver Award.

Powerful, by Major Lazer and featuring Tarrus Riley and English singer-songwriter Ellie Goulding was, certified on the 30th of July 2021. Released by Because Music, an independent record label with headquarters in Paris and London, the song has acquired the Silver award for sales of more than 200,000 units in the United Kingdom.

UK record label association, the BPI, administers and certifies the iconic BRIT Certified Platinum, Gold and Silver Awards Programme. This is to recognise and celebrate the commercial success of music recordings and videos released in the UK. The programme reflects consumption through audio streaming and video streams for singles.

Powerful is the second single from American electronic dance music project Major Lazer’s third studio album, Peace is the Mission. Upon Powerful’s release in 2015, it was added to BBC Radio 1’s playlist and had reached top 10 in Australia and Poland. Since then, it has gone two times Platinum in Australia, Platinum in Italy, and Gold in Denmark, New Zealand and the United States.

Described as an EDM power ballad, Powerful was labelled as one of the most accessible and radio-friendly songs on the album. This was proven with its use in the 2017 advertisement for Emporio Armani’s Stronger With You and Because It’s You perfumes and the 2017 advertising campaign for Unilever’s Close-Up toothpaste.

The song’s music video currently has over 130 million views on YouTube.
