Kodak Black’s Yard Man Link Up In New Visuals For ‘Z Look Jamaican’: Watch

American rapper Kodak Black’s latest visual, Z Look Jamaican, is a showcase of ‘yaad man’ vibes with plenty of cold Red Stripe and splashes of rasta colours. The intriguing track is the first single from the Florida emcee’s new project Haitian Boy Kodak, released on May 14, 2021. While displaying his Haitian pride, Z (as Kodak has called himself since his 2018 monster collab ZEZE) rocks a comfy tracksuit in the Jamaican flag colors, and flirts with the local ladies while spitting his monotone bars.

Directed by Young Chang (Only – Nicki Minaj, Run Up – Major Lazer), the video starts with a gorgeous drone shot of the capital as Kodak links his yardie hosts ‘pon di ends’ who then promise to show him a good time. Though he’s interrupted a few spirited domino and loodi games, they don’t hold it against their newly freed friend, who was released from jail in January following President Trump’s last-minute pardon.

“The Z was born a shotta”, Kodak raps, enjoying his time in the trenches, while graffitied zinc fences form the backdrop for his antics – headtop dancers, Haitian food, gun fingers, the works.

Like President Obama, the rapper knows a proper island hail is incomplete without a “wah gwaan”. Z goes hard to not only look Jamaican but sound like one, weaving the slang greeting, weed talk, “dutty wine” and more into his unique flow.

A standout on the 8 track album, it’s no surprise this is the Tunnel Vision rapper’s first video as a free man, or that his son King Khalid makes a cameo. Jamaica has historically hosted exiled Haitians, and given the geographical ties between nations, Z (short for ‘zo/zoe’, a Creole term meaning Haitian) channels the overdue family reunion into his punchlines.

“He a Zoe but he look like a Rasta/ Got a lot of killers on my roster/ I be whipping the baby, no foster/ Got the Siri b-tch speaking Patois/ I parked the Nissan in the Benz spot/ I keep the tool like I’m Hancock/ I keep it cool when the bands drop/ What you gon’ do the Amscot?” Kodak spits on the track.

Currently at No. 35 on trending, the buzzing clip has gotten support from members of Jamaica’s entertainment industry.

Dancehall producer Rvssian, 6ixx deejay Daddy1, as well as dancer/artist Ding Dong Ravers dropped Jamaican flag and fire emojis in the comments below Kodak’s IG post on Friday. Ding also shouted out Pizzle Ravers, a member of his Ravers syndicate who repped Jamaica’s prolific dance culture in the video, saying “big look bro bro”.
