Skillibeng not only had the last laugh but the hottest weekend debut after his official Crocodile Teeth Remix with Nicki Minaj topped YouTube trending in Jamaica for three consecutive days.

The updated gunplay track is currently No. 1 in Music overall, lending significant clout to Mr. Universe’s growing international appeal. Just weeks ago, the artist was dragged after he posted then deleted the pending collab on social media, leading many to believe his entire campaign was a hoax.

Days after its release on Minaj’s Beam Me Up Scotty Mixtape, the 2nd highest female debut of 2021 behind Taylor Swift, the track is nearly at 2M YouTube views and Skillibeng is no doubt enjoying the expanded audience and bolstered reach.

Released in October 2020, during Skillibeng’s beef with fellow dancehall artist Intence, Crocodile Teeth’s crossover potential was apparent from the get-go. As it quickly racked up millions of YouTube views, rap stars like Rich The Kid, Cardi B, the newly freed Bobby Shmurda, and more were seen vibing to the haunting track.

The song has been on the Young Money radar since March after Drake played it on OVO Radio while celebrating his Lemon Pepper freestyle. As fate would have it rap queen Nicki Minaj, a longstanding dancehall fan and frequent collaborator (Hold Yuh Remix, Letting Go (Dutty Love), Touch Down Remix) was readying a comeback project and was confident a fusion track would add a special touch.

In an interview with THE STAR, one of the track’s producers Johnny Wonder shared that Nicki Minaj’s team reached out to be a part of the remix. He said, having listened to the beat and the lyrics of the song, Minaj took a keen interest in Crocodile Teeth. The Queen of the Barbz brought back her melodic patois bars to the fire first verse from her re-released mixtape.

“Might tek a gyal man, I know the opps out/ Dem bright, f-ck I look like in your eyesight?/ Gyal a try, but it not quite right/ They waan fight cause I treat ’em with hype,” she raps on the song.”

It’s no secret that everything the Pink Friday hitmaker touches turns to gold. On the song she also raps, ‘If it’s a calm flex, then I bring the Crocs out’.

Ironically, after the Megatron rapper teased her return to music on Instagram wearing pink Crocs covered in Chanel jewels, the post caused a shopping frenzy, driving up Crocs sales and crashing the retailer’s website. With such a powerful linkup to his name, there’s no doubt that Skillibeng will see increased success and streaming, truly living up to his Mr. Universe moniker even sooner than he expected.
