Dancehall artist Kemar Highcon is catching heat for seemingly innocent posts of a light-skinned woman on Instagram as some incensed fans accused him of colorism.

In an Instagram post yesterday, the singer got several fans hot and bothered when he posed with one woman who appeared to be a model.   Highcon indicated in the caption that he was in Costa Rica, along with his team, Konshens, and Konshens’ wife, Latoya.

Fans began to comment angrily as they insinuated among other things that he was selling out black women by ‘dating up’.

“Suh nuh artists nuh want nuh black girl again,” one fan said, while another commented, “Black women should stop supporting and listening to this man! Bcuz it’s obvious where his love and respect is and it’s not towards us.”

One comment elicited a response from Kemar. “These are the kind of nigggas yall black females run behind and support when they not even see yall. They rather hitch up with soggy skin white gal looking like when butter melting,” wrote the Instagram user.  To which he replied, “S–k yuh mother”.

He responded to another naysayer, “A your biniz or mine?”

Kemar followed up with another post today of the same woman, on a beach in Jacó, Costa Rica.  This, again, prompted backlash from some fans.

“Wre the black woman at tho smfh i said what i said,” one questioned, and another said: “So you couldn’t find a good woman in Jamaica? Wait until you marry her then you will see the true her when she ready fi claim half of everything you got. You will always be a ni–a for her and her family. Stupid a–.”

“Watch The Slave Bwoy With him Slave Master Dem!”, one fan said.  Another added, “Sell out! Sad sad sad.”

Meanwhile, several other fans jumped to Kemar and the woman’s defense.

“Jamaican women no want dem when dem bruck…& I see a lot of whites women tek dem up & go make much of them when dem no have nothing! On the other hand, people date who they want to date, that’s black peoples biggest problem too, dem always have a problem when a woman with little colour is in it….all when the person just light skin like it’s not the same black people…” one user said.

Can we normalize people loving each other no matter the race??” commented one user. “Never knew black people was so racist until after reading those comments… the man have a type let him be.”

“Yeh bro, post a dozen more and mad dem,” one supporter encouraged.

More than likely, Highcon is trying to promote his last music video Sneak Out, which featured a fair-skinned model as lead. He reposted a clip from the video today on Instagram, which was released on February 28 on YouTube.
