Champion Boy Dancehall deejay Alkaline had a sizzling performance in Tampa, Florida over the weekend.

A massive crowd of Vendetta fans descended on the SD Lawn on Falkenburg Road on Saturday night, most of which were wildly excited female fans wanting to get their admission of $50 – $150 worth of unadulterated Alkaline fire.

With his bodyguards working overtime to ward off several sticky-finger fans while on stage, the deejay went through an extensive catalog of his songs from City, Formula, Move Mountains, Gyal Bruk Out to his most recent releases such as Top Prize, We Up, Nah Fi Like and Cree among others.

From the first lines of Champion Boy, the lanky entertainer could do no wrong. “Weh the champion dem deh inna Tampa Bay…one bagga gold medal pon me ee no, champion boy yu know how the damn ting go!” he chanted to a major forward. He was forced to pull up the song.

He then segued into All About the Money, and the girls sang the words line for line, drowning out his vocals.  He danced, flirted with the female fans at the front of the stage, as he kept up the pace with City, and when he declared that he had the Formula, they almost lost their minds.

He seemed to run out of breath at one point but the fans buoyed him with their own vocals, singing an entire chorus: ‘Please baby, don’t throw it all away/Me might a f— up, but don’t give up on me/One more chance, don’t throw it all away/And me a beg you hold little longer, no lose grip on me’.

The 27-year-old deejay, whose real name is Earlan Bartley, was almost pulled off stage a couple of times from simply indulging a few grasping hands that were just trying to touch their favorite deejay as he performed. His performance went on for about 30 minutes, much to the appreciation of the ladies.

“A bad deejay, mi love yuh bad, yuh look sexy nuh bombocl88t,” said one fan after the show. She also went on to defend his name, seemingly aware of some of the hate he gets from the critics at times, “Loww Alkaline cah uno nuh hot like him a bloodcl88t, a weh do uno, the man intellect and up. Yeh uno want come destroy my artsite name,” she said.

Alkaline’s latest singles Top Prize and De Suh directly quiets his oppressors much like others such as Nah Fi Like, Dutty Bad Mind, and Juggernaut, so die-hard fans of the deejay will know he doesn’t take negativity lightly.

The venue was packed with people standing shoulder to shoulder with very few masks observed in the crowd. Florida added 7,280 coronavirus cases for Feb. 19, according to the Florida Department of Health’s latest report.

A total of 1,863,707 people in Florida have tested positive for coronavirus since the pandemic began.

On Saturday, the state reported another 121 Floridians and four non-residents had died after testing positive for COVID-19. That brings the total to 29,813 residents and 526 non-residents who have died since the pandemic began – a total of 30,339 deaths in the state related to the virus.

In the meantime, Alkaline’s new album, Top Prize – slated to be released five years after his first album – will feature 14 tracks which his management team said will further demonstrate his creativity, growth, and unforgettable presence as a lyricist.
