Two years after attaining his dream of achieving his high school diploma, Dancehall singjay Mr. Vegas, who also goes by the name Suubi, is getting even more studious, and apparently has his sights set on solving some of the world’s social problems.

A few days ago the Heads High artist posted a photo of himself lying on a beach chair, seemingly at a resort in Jamaica, clad in shorts and a merino, reading a copy of the 11th Edition of James M. Hemslin’s textbook titled Social Problems: A Down to Earth Approach.

The book, which was published in 2013, provides a sociological understanding of critical social problems facing the United States.

“Once upon a time, reading was not important to me, now I am addicted to learning.  #sociology,” Vegas captioned the post, pointing out that he was on a quest for knowledge.

Lying next to the star was another book, Barack Obama’s A Promised Land, a memoir which was published in November last year, which seems to be another part of his reading list.

He received congratulations from his fans, among them kevazz_music, who said: “I respect the man for that bro. Your hunger for knowledge has become a bother to many. Keep bothering them #KnowledgeIsPower”.

Words of support also came from legendarytontoirie who noted: “Blessings singer bill up the mind to battle the enemies.   Full joy mi Genna.”

In July 2019 Vegas announced that he had just graduated high school at age 44, almost three decades after dropping out of secondary school whilst in grade nine.

At the time he said he had attained his General Education Development (GED) high school diploma in the United States, which certifies that he has met North American high school-level academic skills.

The artist, whose real name is Clifford Smith, had also said that the accomplishment was just the beginning.

According to Mr. Vegas, it had taken him “three months to condense certain academics that some people may take four to five years to learn”.

“So it was a lot of studying, a lot of hard work a lot of … applying self to achieve such goals,” he said at the time.

“My mother told me some things before she left this earth. She said it’s never too late for a shower of rain. She also said, ‘show me your company, and I tell you who you are. Now I did not graduate high school, I dropped out at the start of ninth grade. I did not have a high school diploma. I didn’t have such luxury of receiving one. At the start of this year, I set out to achieve some goals. One of my goals was to get my high school diploma,” Vegas had said.

Mr. Vegas was one of the prolific Dancehall stars to emerge at the turn of the millennium. His very catchy 1998 single Heads High, which was produced by iconic producer Danny Browne, has sold more than 500,000 copies worldwide and has also been sampled 12 times by numerous international artistes, among them, Nicki Minaj, Black Eyed Peas, Canadian rapper Tori Lanez and New York-based rapper Action Branson.

Another mega-hit Hot Gyal Today, a collab with Sean Paul in 2001, dominated the charts for months and also gained Vegs further global popularity.
