As the smoke clears after her very public breakup last week, motivational speaker Krystal Tomlinson, the former flame of Dancehall King, Beenie Man, went straight to her Instagram live to share some pretty deliberate tidbits on how to cope with stress when going through struggles and pain in your life.

During her Live, an optimistic looking, Tomlinson admitted that she hasn’t quite ended things with Beenie but is rather in the process of severing ties. Though she was absent last Monday from her weekly online series #GoodGasMondays for what she says are obvious reasons (the breakup) she was all ready and set to kick off things this week, this time with the added credentials to speak from a place of fresh, new experiences.

In the aftermath of Beenie and Krystal’s breakup announcement, it became evident that the two had been separated for quite some time. Krystal however, would appear on her usual Instagram episodes and social media in the interim seemingly unmoved by what was apparently trouble in paradise. This raises the question, how does she do it? Well, a whole 57K of her followers logged on to her Live yesterday to find out.

“In this live I share three tools that help me to keep good perspective even when the lights get dim in the tunnel,” she captioned the series. These mental tools she went on to explain are: 1. to “be still and welcome the alone time,” 2. have a powerful definition of self, and 3. self-compassion.

“The first thing you must do is quiet your mind,” Krystal said, no matter which “valley” of hardship you’re going through. “Take some time in that moment to be alone and still and hear how you’re to walk through or work through or heal through this valley … and allow the universe to talk to you, allow your creator to talk to you.”

This probably explains why she made the decision to spend the Christmas holidays abroad and away from Beenie. It was just two months prior in October that rumors had started circulating that she and the deejay were no longer an item.

However, during her Live Krystal insisted that persons listening should not “restrict” her message by associating it with her recent breakup with her former Dancehall deejay boyfriend.

“I know some people will hear what I’m saying and just automatically locate it like it haffi always do wid relationship. Life is more complicated than who yuh deh wid and who yuh don’t deh wid,” she said.

Going on further, her second tool – self-definition, Tomlinson explained, “Gives me peace … I don’t feel the need to prove anything …that’s what’s been keeping me settled, calm and at peace and just literally unbothered.”

She clearly demonstrated this as the chatter erupted online last Tuesday when Beenie broke the news of their split in a ‘cavalier manner’, according to some onlookers. Instead of getting angry, Tomlinson made an inspiring announcement of her own and was seen on Twitter cracking jokes with the internet trolls who were poking fun at hers and Beenie’s expense.

“I define myself, I know who I am. So sometimes dem a talk bout somebody and dem tink a me dem a talk bout, is not me. I’m not that person,” she reasoned further on her IG live.

Her third and final “tool”, self-compassion, she urges is to love yourself enough to give yourself permission to heal. During those extremely tough times, treat yourself with love, respect and honor. The motivational speaker told her listeners that it was important to believe that pain is not permanent and what you feel when you’re in the “valley” will only temporary.
