As memes of Bernie Sanders continue to go viral on social media, Rita Marley decided to join in on the fun by sharing a meme of the US Senator that featured her late husband and Reggae legend Bob Marley.

On Friday, Rita joined thousands of other meme lords by taking to Instagram and Twitter to share a photo of Bob “from the archives” with a Bernie Sanders twist.

The pose, a Burton parka, hand-knitted mittens, a surgical blue mask, and social distance have propelled the photo of Senator Sanders at the inauguration into an internet sensation since the January 20 ceremony that swore in Joe Biden and Kamala Harris as the President and Vice-President of the United States.

Rita’s daughter, Cedella sent congratulations to Biden and Harris a few days ago, noting that Bob Marley’s music appears on the official inauguration playlist.

One Twitter user wrote, “probably the only person in the world that could get away with this. I was about to write ‘sacrilege’ before I saw it was Queen Rita.”

“Bernin’ and Lootin’,” wrote one fan on Instagram. “I can definitely see it those two jamming,” added another.

“He needs a splif in his mouth! 😂,” quipped one fan.

The original photo was taken by Brendan Smialowski, a Washington-based photojournalist.

Sanders reacted to the viral attention during an appearance on NBC’s Late Night with Seth Meyers last week, saying, “I was just sitting there trying to keep warm, trying to pay attention to what was going on.”

His campaign team has capitalized on the trending meme. The Senator’s official store launched a sweatshirt for $45 featuring the photo that inspired thousands of memes, with all the proceeds going to a Meals on Wheels program in the his home state of Vermont.  It has since sold out.
