Dancehall producer Ainsley “NotNice” Morris shared some exciting news on Monday, that a follow up to last years’ Billboard charting Kyng Midas compilation is in the works.

The album garnered acclaim for its unique and diverse arrangement, dabbling in everything from Afrobeats and soft rock, to hardcore Dancehall.

From Popcaan’s lauded cover of Garnett Silk’s New Found Love, to the nostalgic Gaza number Empire Medley, NotNice curated a phenomenal showcase of the genre’s full potential. News of a possible sequel spread quickly after his Instagram post yesterday, with fans already speculating whether their fave will land a coveted feature next time around.

Responsible for conceptualizing some of Dancehall’s biggest hits in recent years, NotNice applied his ‘golden touch’ to each of the suite’s 18 tracks. Enlisted for the solid, flavorful mix were Dexta Daps, Rygin King, Bounty Killer, Agent Sasco, TeeJay, Sean Paul, Ghanian deejay Shatta Wale, and newcomer Nordia Mothersille among others.

Though he responded “next year” when pressed for a release date on Instagram, eager anticipation has already begun.

Many noted the absence of his longtime collaborator Vybz Kartel (Ramping Shop, Last Man Standing, Cake Soap) from the first project, which NotNice attributed to the deejay’s incarceration.

According to Kartel’s attorneys, his Privy Council appeal verdict could arrive as early as December, so fans will have to wait and see who makes the final cut for NotNice’s new album from among Dancehall’s established and emerging talent.

NotNice’s relationship with another longtime collaborator, Popcaan (Ova Dweet, El Chapo, Dream), is currently on the fritz after the two took their unresolved money issues to social media in April.

He also severed ties with Alkaline (Move Mountains, Gyal Bruk Out, Things Mi Love) after they started to move in different directions, which he revealed during an Instagram chat with fellow producer Steven ‘Lenky’ Marsden in June.

Speaking on his status in the industry and ‘magical musical touch’, NotNice rejected any “GOAT” labels, citing Dave and Tony Kelly, Stephen ‘Di Genius’ McGregor, Don Corleone, and Teetimus as others who had done admirable and considerable work.

“Maybe I’m the greatest of my time, but not of all time” NotNice told the Observer last year.

“If you know di story of King Midas everything him touch turns to gold. Musically, I see myself as dat person giving young talent a soun’ so dem can go out on it an’ really buss an’ tun big artiste or big star.”

Kyng Midas peaked at No. 9 on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart.
