A much-anticipated photo book, “Bob Marley: Portrait of the Legend” will soon be released to celebrate the life and musical and cultural influence of reggae icon, Bob Marley in recognition of his 75th birthday anniversary.

Bob Marley’s son, Ziggy Marley, author of the book and eight-time Grammy winner made the announcement. The photobook is the first of the kind to be given the green light by the Bob Marley Foundation. “Bob Marley: Portrait of the Legend”, to be released on October 13, is being published by Rizzoli International Publications, which is pleased to present this exciting body of work.

According to Rizzoli, “…this glorious oversize book collects more than 150 photographs that celebrate the life and influence of the forefather of reggae and one of the greatest musical and sociopolitical icons of twentieth-century pop culture.”

The images are pulled exclusively from the Marley family archives. The Gleaner reports that the monumental book is a blend of “iconic and the intimate, bringing together striking images of his on-stage performances, along with glimpses into his creative process in and out of the studio, and family life in Jamaica.”

Beyond the images, “Bob Marley: Portrait of the Legend” is sprinkled with excerpts drawn from previously unpublished interviews that offer a revealing look into Bob the legend, his music, and life, as well as prophetic quotes that offer a glimpse into the mind of a man whose impact is far-reaching even to this day. The last decade of Bob’s life is when he experienced his greatest worldwide fame and this period is the focus of the book.

This definitive portrait of Bob Marley is illustrated by those closest to him, who knew him best, perhaps as family, friend, and a legendary musician.

Loop News reported that Ziggy Marley stated, “I am blessed to present to you this very special collection of photographs from our archives. There is a cliché term, ‘a picture is worth a thousand words’. From my experience of looking through hundreds and hundreds of photos for this book, I will say, yes, it is true.”

Bob Marley, a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, has left behind a legacy that continues to inspire. He placed reggae on the global map, and even today, long after his death, his music and lifestyle have a powerful influence on individuals across the world. Bob is undoubtedly one of the 20th century’s most influential entertainment icons and posthumous celebrity.
