Dancehall artiste Tommy Lee Sparta seems to be all in his feels of late. It’s been over three weeks since his release from jail on August 17. Since then, he has threatened to sue the state for his wrongful incarceration, released a new track entitled Hot Topic, and just a few days ago, shared an intriguing throwback photo of himself and long-time friend Popcaan in what appears to be the early days of their music careers.

The photo, which he posted on Instagram and captioned, “Throwthat lol big up @popcaanmusic we swear them time ya we well lol clean lol #fullygaza,” finds the two friends in deep gossip on a small floral sofa looking quite sprite.

The pic has tallied-up more than 30k Likes and over 700 comments. As expected, a few celebrity figures and fans alike pounced on the opportunity to poke fun and roast the two deejays.

GAZA affiliates, Shawn Storm and Lisa Hyper, started with a trail of laughing-face emojis. Several fans made reference to Popcaan’s attire, especially IG user Blackbeads, who said, “Popcaan pants nice ehh. Uncle say throwthat.”

Kezza Edwards added, “Watch popcaan puss boot,” while Iamraygad asked, “@popcaanmusic yuh memba wah kinda shoes that?”

After many tags, Popcaan eventually popped in the comments feed to big up Lee and reminisce on the time the photo was taken. “Leroy my bro 😂😂😂 family forever youth @tommyleesparta coulda swear a lady say the drip them heavy tha day ya😂,” he wrote.

The former protégés of the GAZA Empire have had a friendship spanning as far back as 2010, gaining popularity from appearing on several stages with their mentor Vybz Kartel and taking on similar journeys in trying to make a name for themselves in the Dancehall arena.

Today, they are two of the most prominent figures in the industry and have remained pretty close. Tommy Lee was recently featured on Popcaan’s album, the FIXTAPE, in a collab with Masicka entitled Unda Dirt. The album dropped during Lee’s incarceration, and throughout one of his promotional stints, Popcaan went on an Instagram Live to publicly call for his friend’s freedom.

Sparta, whose real name is Leroy Russell, had a hectic couple of weeks behind bars after his arrest on July 7. He appeared in court several times to appeal his detention but experienced delays in the hearings, which subsequently left him detained much longer than expected.

The deejay was named as a person of interest during an investigation on several gangs within the Montego Bay area and his hometown of Flankers in particular. He was suspected to have had influence over a group by the name of “Sparta Gang,” which led police to believe that he could provide answers relating to the upsurge in violence in the community.

Lee turned himself into the authorities at the Freeport Police Station the following day after their request and spent 41 weeks in lock-up.
