Popcaan, Vybz Kartel, Intence, Julian Marley, And More Celebrate Their Dads On Father’s Day

Father’s Day certainly does not get as much recognition as Mother’s Day – at least not in Jamaica. However,  some reggae and dancehall artistes aren’t leaving out their fathers on this day aimed at celebrating the bond between father and child.

Below is a list of some entertainers who took to social media on Sunday (June 21 ) to celebrate their fathers.

Popcaan

Popcaan was one of the first entertainers on IG to share Father’s Day greetings for his dad affectionately known as “Shaggy”.

“Happy Father’s Day G,” said Popcaan who not only tagged his dad in the post but shared a photo of the two bonding at what seems to have been a river flex.

Close friend of Popcaan’s, Canadian Rapper, Drake, commented on the post, also sharing well-wishes  for the entertainer’s dad who he affectionately called “Skully”.

The 31-year-old is also a father himself, he has one daughter.

Tony Matterhorn

Veteran selector and deejay at times, Tony Matterhorn shared father’s day wishes for his late dad on Instagram. Matterhorn in recognizing his dad on the special day revealed that it would have also been his father’s birthday had he been alive.

” Happy birthday and happy Father’s Day to the late great MR Taylor senior, ” said Mattheron as he shared a photo of his Father looking dapper in yellow.

Lisa Hyper

Lisa Hyper who is making a come back on the dancehall scene not only shared a photo of her dad on  Father’s Day but told her following how much of a good dad her father is. Hyper also revealed that she was raised in a single father household.

“This Is The Real M.A.N ❤ The Best To Ever Do It👏 Raise Two Daughters On Your Own Jah Kno Daddy ,” said Hyper on Instagram.

“If Some People Woulda Only Know Enuh😩 This Love Is EverLasting Love I Put No One Before You. What I Really Wanna Say Is Thankyou Daddy, For Everything Happy Happy Fathers Day To You My Heartbeat, ” she added on the social media platform.

Agent Sasco

The Winning Right Now hitmaker shared a photo of his father on IG noting that the older he gets the more appreciative of the lessons he learned from his father.

” The more I grow, the more I understand and appreciate the things I learned from you. #HappyFathersDay Pop,” said Agent Sasco.

Sasco later gave thanks for his kids in another post.

Julian Marley

Julian Marley‘s father died close to 4-decades ago – however, he isn’t leaving out the undisputed King of Reggae, Bob Marley, from praise on the big day for fathers.

“Blessed Father’s Day Dada , and to all the fathers out there , continue to be blessed , BLESSED FATHERS DAY to The ALMIGHTY.. the 1st Father of creation, ” said Marley on Instagram.

Vybz Kartel

We’ve all heard dancehall great Vybz Kartel talk about his father ” Mr Palmer” but few have ever seen him.

The incarcerated entertainer dropped a  few photos of his father on his IG . Kartel also made multiple posts to celebrate the occasion,  as he shared father’s day greeting for his dad who he referred to as his ” G”.

Kartel was sure to also pay tribute to his musical father, Bounty Killer who he credits as a leader in Dancehall.

Bounty replied, “Blessed love mi King Son from Portmore not Kingston give thanks and same to you salute we yutes is we troops”.

Intence

Breakout dancehall star Intence recognized himself as a dad and sent tributes out to his own father as well.

“Bless up enuh Fada Axe, @axe_jettlife_sedway.  Likewise mi self n every real fada out deh,” he said.

Foota Hype

“My God on earth” that’s how selector Foota Hype referred to his father as he shared special father’s day greeting for his dad affectionately known as “Scorpion King”.

“Happy Father’s Day to my God on earth SCORPION aka Mr Thomas, ” said Foota Hype on IG who shared a photo of himself, his son, and his father.

D’Angel

Dancehall artiste D’Angel paid tribute to her late father, Clive Downer, on Father’s Day. In a lengthy IG  post  D’Angel reflected on the strange circumstances under which her father died noting that in honour of the day for daddies she would be visiting his burial spot.

“Happy Father’s Day to one of the wisest man that ever lived. My Dad Clive Downer, even though you’re no longer with is we really miss you, last night me and my younger siblings @kingcoco_123 was sharing some wonderful fun memories of you. How you died is just puzzling and the man who did it disappeared but God nah sleep one day, one day he will be brought to justice, ” said D’Angel on Instagram. 

Ce’Cile

Ce’cile paid tribute to the father of her child, Christopher Martin.

“Thank you for your 50% of a wonderful little human being. It’s not always perfect but we try. We try for the sake of our children who should see the very best human beings we can be. Thank you for always coming through for Nana. I hope you enjoy your day (times 3),” she said.
