Amanda Seales Sparks Viral Twitter Game About Beenie Man’s ‘Old Dog’ Lyrics

Still picking up the pieces from last Saturday’s epic ‘Beenie Man Verzuz Bounty Killer’ clash by producer Swizz Beatz, there is a whole new series of tweets fixated on the King of Dancehall.

Amidst all the excitement that was stirring during the show, the comments were fluttering by at rapid speed. With no time to spell check, a few grammatical blunders here and there were acceptable but not a whole rhyme to a song.

This was the case when American comedian and actress Amanda Seales confidently threw out what she thought were the lyrics to the chorus of Beenie Man’s notorious 1996 gyallis anthem, Old Dog as he was performing the song during the Verzuz battle.

“OLD DAWG LIGHT WEIGHHHHTTTTT,” Amanda shouted, which caught the eyes of a few bewildered Jamaicans. A Twitter user screenshot the comment and captioned it, “Old dawg what?” with laughing face emojis.

The lyrics to the chorus are actually, “Old dog like we // We haffi have dem inna two’s and three’s”.

Amanda is certainly not the first person to make up her own lyrics to get through a song. She is half Grenadian (born in the U.S.), so although she was way off, this should be expected as she is from a different culture.

The comedian/actress later tweeted that she had been singing the song that way for years and, despite the jokes at her expense, thanked the ‘yardies’ for helping her out.

The re-post sparked a tireless list of reactions from humored Jamaicans poking fun at Amanda and also kick-started a game of savage annihilation of Beenie’s classic lyrics to his single Old Dog.
