Beenie Man and Bounty Killer’s Verzuz battle last night was as authentic as any Dancehall clash could get.

Jamaican police shocked over 400,000 live viewers when they interrupted the much-anticipated battle between the legendary dancehall deejays.  Unlike previous virtual Verzuz clashes, the two Jamaican artistes faced off in the same space, a studio, which was reminiscent of their Sting clashes in 1993 and 1995.

As police entered the studio, where the event was being live-streamed, the music stopped during Round 12, and Bounty Killer stepped away from the camera leaving Beenie Man to look on as members of his team and his partner, Krystal Tomlinson, spoke with the cops off-screen who were apparently intent on putting a stop to the show.

Beenie stepped in and explained to the officers that they were performing live for an audience of hundreds of thousands of people around the world.

“Can we not do this right now? Can we not do this right now? We have 500,000 people right now watching us all over the world,” he said while looking off-screen.

He repeatedly asked, “Do you want to be that guy?” and it apparently worked. The officers left the studio, and Beenie Man called on his friend to return to the clash. “Killa, we are not going to make them disturb our thing. Kill come back over here so nah, them gone outta door”.

Beenie addressed viewers saying, “People, the police are gone. We get rid of them. It’s good. We’re Jamaicans. We’re being nice. We’re being good. Uno don’t mek we start to fight”.

Barbadian superstar Rihanna was in the comments and ready to fight. “Tell the police go hooommmmeee” she said, adding, “Come oooonnnn office,” and “let the chune run man.”

The interruption, which occurred at approximately 9.23 PM Jamaica Time, lasted for about two minutes before the Verzuz battle continued for another hour.

It’s not clear why the police interrupted the event, but Jamaica has been under government-mandated COVID-19 lockdown measures since March with a daily nationwide curfew in effect from 8:00 P.M. to 5:00 A.M.

The clash eventually peaked at over 480,000 live viewers on Instagram.
