Vybz Kartel, Shaggy, Koffee, Spice and More Dancehall Stars Send Happy Mother’s Day Wishes
It was not surprising that the Dancehall artistes who have immortalized their mothers in their lyrics over the years, were first out of the blocks this morning, professing their love on social media, for the women who carried them inside their bodies for nine months, as the world celebrates Mother Day.
Vybz Kartel, who has penned songs dedicated entirely to emphasize his love for his mother, kick-started the Mothers Day celebrations, as early as 1:00am. He posted images with text greetings serenading not only his own mother, but the spouses of his friends, and of Shorty (Tanesha Johnson), the love of his life and mother of his three sons, and Sherika Todd, mother of his daughter Adi’Anna on his Instagram page.
The incarcerated artiste tributes come on the heels of the release of his song Life Giver which celebrates motherhood and fatherhood. Life Giver premiered four days ago and has since racked up more than 400,000 views on YouTube.
It is not uncommon for Dancehall and Reggae artistes to profess their love for their mothers, but more of them are openly celebrating their wives. As such, it was not unexpected that the soulful Romain Virgo was also up and running from as early as 3:00am.
The 2007 Digicel Rising Stars winner, posted a photo of himself with his mother and a video clip of his wife Elizabeth, shot by himself during her pregnancy with their twin daughters.
“When I reflect on your journey, to where you are now, all I can do is give thanks and praise to the Almighty,” Virgo wrote to Elizabeth.
“Our little princesses are so blessed to call you their mother and I am so blessed to call you my queen,” the Fade Away artiste added.
Platinum-selling artiste Shaggy also posted images of his mother as well as wife Rebecca Packer Burrell and their children on IG, where he too, professed his love.
Beenie Man took a break from his fitness journey to send “love to ALL MOTHERS”. “We appreciate and love you,” he said.

Romeich also gave a touching tribute to his mother, Kookie the mother of his son and to the first lady of Romeich Entertainment, Shenseea, whom he described as his “three favourite moms. His mother, he said, was the love of his life and the only person who believed in him; Kookie, who has been his friend from ever since and for having given him his son Xander, ‘the best gift in his life’, and Shenseea, for “bringing her son Rajerio into his life at three months old and allowing him to be a father figure in his life.

As is customary in Jamaica, artistes whose mothers have passed, paid tributes. Bounty Killer, as expected, was also out long before daybreak on his Mothers Day mission. He posted a picture on IG of himself and his late Mother Miss Ivy, the woman he declared as the “driving force in his life”, in his 1997 Pot of Gold hit collab with Reggae crooner Richie Stephens.

Agent Sasco was also up before sunrise, where he posted a youthful grayscale photo of his late mother, simply captioned with a heart and a clasped hands icon. The Mama Pray artiste’s fans immediately remarked on the striking resemblance he had to her.
Spice, let out her alter ego Grace Hamilton and shared several photos of herself with her two kids. In one post, she wrote “Happy Mother’s Day to all the super Moms out there . Continue doing a great Job in raising the next generation”.

Eight-time gold medal Olympian, turned Dancehall producer Usain Bolt sent best wishes to his mother Jennifer Bolt and girlfriend Kasi Bennett.
