The Trinidadian King of Soca Machel Montano announced the end of his popular concert series, Machel Monday yesterday and he did it with the help of some friends from Dancehall.

Konshens electrified the crowd with a guest appearance during the fete at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain, Trinidad. Later on in the show Tarrus Riley serenaded the crowd with his hit She’s Royal.  The song was also dedicated to Machel Montano and his new wife, Renee Butcher.

Machel and Renee were married on Valentine’s Day at the Red House in Port of Spain.  The couple held a second ceremony on stage during the show for fans.

Montano also expressed his desire to unify Caribbean musicians as he announced that from next year he and Mas band Tribe will host an international Soca cruise in place of Machel Monday.  The Soca event will be called Melé.

“Imagine you are on the shore. Machel Monday is the shore and you are going out to the sea…launching into water. I am taking this from the land and heading to sea,” Machel said to the strains of ‘Water Flowing’.

“Are you ready to go with me? We are going on the water with the greatest Carnival band, we leaving land and for the first time we are going on the sea,” he said as a promo for the cruise played on screen.

He also revealed that he is hoping to have Buju Banton as a part of the cast for the cruise which is rumored to take place in April or May next year. He also hinted that if Vybz Kartel is freed, he would also ensure that the artiste is part of the line-up of performers.

Machel joins dancehall fans who continue to keep their ears to the ground in the hope that Kartel’s pending appeal will have a favorable verdict.

Montano and Kartel already have a working relationship. The Dancehall and Soca Kings teamed up in December last year for a soca/dancehall fusion tracked titled Super Soca. Before that, they collaborated in 2007 with Hold Yuh Tonight.
